I take a break on Ruby Chronicles and I come up with this in 3 days! Damn xD

Story

Ok, it seems that God isn't too happy. 16 years ago one of his angels and a devil from the underworld got together and had a child by accident. Whoops. This child was born with angel and devil powers, becoming dubbed the Demi-Child. The angel and demon in question unable to fend off the multitude of angels went and gave their powers to two individuals that would soon be the Demi-Child's guardians before sealing themselves deep inside a volcano (Yes, a volcano is a weird place, just roll with it~).

Oh, and Satan doesn't give a single crap about the Demi-Child, which is strange because the Demi-Child could become a stupidly powerful ally...

Anyway, our tale begins with the Demi-Child accompanied by a rather eccentric companion...

Characters

Cain Abel

The Demi-Child, unaware of his great potential was a lowly street rat thief before meeting his eccentric companion a month before our tale. At 15 years old he still has that child innocence and is always happy go lucky. As well as naive he always means well and is quick to catch onto new things. He is good with twin daggers and is exceptionally fast and damn lucky!

Breeze Pueblo

Cain's eccentric and somewhat overbearing companion. She was a spirit hunter for 4 years before meeting Cain and has been with him ever since. Fighting off angels and teaching him about the world (while mocking PRG mechanics at the same time). Despite her ditzy and genki facade she is actually pretty damn smart, living in the middle of nowhere with a lab she made herself. She has a preference for guns.

Yi-Qo

Is an arch-angel of God. After the years of angels going to attempt to kill the Demi-Child, God finally decides to send down one of his arch-angels to do the job. Yi-Qo is loyal to God and is always willing to follow him. She speaks with a very regal tone and doesn't have much patience for tom foolery, a worker's attitude. Though before she is sent down she is confused as her sister became a fallen angel not too long ago and wants to look into that. To the surface!
What? You thought I was going to spoil the other 3 main character? Psssh, yeah right! Though so far this is ONLY A DEMO, so don't expect all of the to be available. Oh, and if you don't utilize each character's skills in battle, "you're gonna have a bad time." Also, grinding is encouraged for this game!~

FIXES-

Healing Crystal losing power when NOT choosing to use it.

Cut boss' HP and removed poison as slip damage death breaks the game (Yanfly's script bug)

Note: I'm officially going back to working on Ruby Chronicles, this game is almost halfway finished anyway~

I will check it out, looks interesting.

Edit:

The first point is, this game rocks!

The second point is, see the first point!

However my thunder of enjoyment was stolen by the fact that when I did beat the boss. Battle didn't end and then the same battle crashed the game, because I tried to attack.

Played it. Go the error, fixing it now. The problem is with Yanfly's scripts. Death by "Slip Damage" breaks the game. Cutting the boss' HP in half and removing poison from the game for the time being.

New version uploaded with the fixes.

Yo! I felt like walking over the wall. There is also minor mistake with the dialogue at the one point during that map. Didn't take a screenshot about it. But basically it was two words without the space in-between.

Edit: "...but I learn it when I hot lv6". Then again it might be intentional. ;)

She does not look half bad and when considering the context it was said on.

That ONE tile on that map was passable on the screen you showed xD

And yeah, the "hot" was intentional, it's a bad/ Dragon Quest-like pun :p

- Your game's world is pretty to look at but very claustrophobic, it would make more sense to give some more room at times (for example, forest clearings).

- I like how one of the characters is aware that their world is just a game while other characters has no clue what she is talking about.

- Boss fights are interesting, albeit the sword battle drags a bit and I managed to counter it properly during the first battle against him.

- Mapping feels like the entire game is a one giant but a very narrow maze. It would not hurt to have some alternative paths at times (however, maybe there is some later).

Erm, "narrow maze" and "alternate paths"... Aren't they more or less the same thing? Unless you mean two routes that lead to the exit... lol And yeah, the Avenja fight can get pretty long if you don't counter act the ATK debuffs with buffs on Breeze. In fact in my opinion he is the hardest boss so far (butterfly with a sword xD).

Funny you should say that. Despite my best field being mapping, I was hardly giving it any thought (3 days I spent on this o_O). But I do see where you're coming from about claustrophobic, the mountain path, forest and cave to the altar were mass offenders on this. Though I do plan on expanding it a little. The farm, tower (if you made it that far) is pretty big and from the world map, you see that fortress? Yeah. Twill be massive.

What do you think about the plot so far? And thanks for playing ^^

New demo release, a potential 3 hours of gameplay as well!~

(For those who have downloaded previous versions) I'm not sure if old saves will still work...

If you added new database entries, those old save files will just cause game to crash.

I've heard instances of this happening. Even still I decided to give it a shot, by just copying and pasting my save file into this new version's folder and it works fine. Though, I never made it to the end of the first version.

Hmmm, well if you got to the end of the first demo I would recommend a New Game. I did make some changes to the database, edited a few skills and class skills.

I decided to take time out from development of my own game and try out someone else's as I hadn't reviewed anything else in a while. I liked the look of your game and figured I'd give it a try. I'm really glad I did because this is a high-quality title. I did not finish your demo as I didn't have a whole lot of time (I got to the forest after the Farming village, where you fight the woman who evades everything), but I'm very likely going to go back to it and if I do I'll add more to this review. My review here is going to have a lot of negative (Red) points, but please don't be put off by that as they're mostly personal preferences and meant as suggestions rather than criticisms. So without further ado:

+ The interface is very clean with a font I really like (What is it, by the way?).

+ The battle music is really funky. In fact I went afk to wash the dishes after fighting the first boss and had the tune in my head the whole time.

+ I really like that Breeze needs ammo for her gun in order to attack and the extra ammo element types is a neat touch. I sort of wish ammo conservation was actually more of a concern to the player than it was. Other than the first boss, I never had an ammo problem.

+ The humour in this game was (mostly) hilarious. Breeze constantly breaking the fourth wall and being self-aware was a brilliant running gag and made me laugh on almost every occassion. This was a really good design decision and she was easily my favourite character (Both in-combat and out).

+ The enemy designs were varied and interesting. The devil babies shocked me the first time I saw them.

+ Map design is mostly simple, but had no mistakes and was great to look at. The world map was really well designed from an aesthetic standpoint.

+ Combat was mostly well balanced. Enemies hit for a good amount and had a decent amount of hitpoints and skills. Outside of boss fights I had no complaints here. Combat is the hardest thing to develop for me so I'm especially appreciative when I see other developers nail it well.

+ The scene when you enter the farming village was well done and I was really excited when Breeze said Cain can't die and then summarily disappointed when she said it was a joke. I would have liked that extra challenge (Even though he actually died the most for me).

+ The point about there not being a spider boss was funny and well received, since I too suffer from arachnophobia. However...

- ...you lied to me! There's a ton of huge spiders in the tower! :p

- There's a number of spelling mistakes in the game, most notably Cain's class (Spelled 'Theif' in the demo).

- The battle encounter rate is bizarrely high, to the point I started counting in seconds how often I would get in a fight and very rarely hit 3. This was most noticeable in the first forest.

- Enemy battlers really stand out. Most of the humanoid enemies are six times taller than the protagonists. I realise this is a limitation that would be hard for you to get around, but I figured I'd mention it. It just looks really odd.

- Coco's wording really got to me after a while. Not necessarily that she was talking in old English (Which is fine and kinda cute) but that you don't understand the definition of 'Thou' and 'Thee'. I was really surprised nobody else has noticed this. When Coco says 'Thou', she's actually saying 'You', not 'I'. So stuff like, "Thou love the taste of coconut" actually says "You love the taste of coconut", not "I love the taste of coconut".

- The miss rate in combat is completely over the top. In one turn in one of the later battles I saw 'Fail', 'Miss', 'Evade' one after the other. Even worse, one of the later bosses is based around an enemy you can't hit. Missing in turn-based RPG combat is very frustrating and not fun for the player. I love challenge, but not this kind.

- Avenja is the most boring boss I've ever fought in an RPG (And I've played a lot). He takes very little damage, I miss most of the time (See the previous point), he gets multiple attacks in a turn and can triple-buff himself. Cain was actually doing 0 damage the whole fight - He was pointless in it. I understand you're supposed to counter-out the debuffs, but even doing that didn't help much if at all. It just felt like an extremely monotonous 20 minutes. Conversely, Cain's twin sister was a very good boss that I enjoyed a lot.

- I really liked Qwen and his random quips in a conversation, but when you first meet him he is much too crude. The language he uses is unnecessary and I feel like you could get the same personality across with more appropriate wording.

- Soothing Essence is worth a lot of money to a vendor. This may have been intentional, but I got a lot of money selling those (And I never used any since the characters (Especially Qwen) have a huge amount of MP).

- After reaching the Cave and Coco talks her sister out of her boredom-induced crusade, the characters just walk out of the cave leaving that artifact in there? Just a few minutes before, Qwen told us it was the one thing Satan needed to take over the world. This was a weird story problem.

I agree with Clord that your maps are claustraphobic and offer little room to move around or deviate. There were a couple of alternate paths that I came across (One of which that was very profitable) but I think the quality of this game would improve a lot with a little more open map design. Overall this is a very quality game and noticeably higher in standard than most RPG Maker titles. I can plainly see you put a lot of time and effort into this and I'm glad I took the time to play it. Your characters are especially colourful and enjoyable to witness and while I felt the storyline wasn't particularly memorable, the protagonists really pushed it along. I'd happily play a game just about Breeze. :p

> I WAS wondering about encounter rate, but I decided to keep it high for the sake of easy? grinding.

> Yi-Qo (Coco)'s wording eh? Thanks for pointing it out, I should fix that ^^'

> I do agree that the miss rate is a too high, I had a friend complain to me about it. Maybe my math was off configuring a script?

> A ton of spiders? I did 4 total runs through the tower a only ran into to 3. And yeah, I spent 20 minutes trying to get over the shock of that one spider image (A really tough time for the sake of monster diversity :'()

> Damn! The Avenja the most boring? Wow, I was NOT expecting that! Since Cain's stats and skillset make him very situational during bosses making a boss completely immune to status effects does limit him to potion (Energy Brew) support xD I'm glad you enjoyed the Aclima fight :D

> I have to admit, Qwen was a major pervert when you first met him and I toned it down to him just nicknaming the girls after their best assets.

> I have to admit Soothing Essence is very expensive and I hardly used them myself... Just 'Bracing' during battle is decent substitute.

> Satan has issues of his own. Stuck in the body of a virgin girl whom he is merging with. I should probably add that the girl (who you don't meet in the demo), is giving Satan some major hassle. The artifact that's just lying there? Unless both powers of the Demi-Child are combined, there's nothing to worry about.

"If you take this game too seriously, you're gonna have a bad time."

-Quote, courtesy of Breeze- :p

I'm glad Breeze is your favourite character, great in battle and out~ Also thanks for the critism, I really appreciate it! The encounter rate and miss rate I'll DEFINITELY change. To be completely honest I spent 6 days in total to make this... My progress is quite ridiculous actually ^^' The novelty of The Avenja did kind of die for me after awhile, but you'll see how that'll change in the demo :p And for both or our sakes, there will be NO more spiders... I'm alternating between this project and another, but I'm back on my first one now, but I'll make some of those changes and I'll look forward to another wall of text~

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
