In a world that was almost destroyed into oblivion during the Elemental War hundreds years ago, humanity in the world of Ascensia had finally returned and everyone has gotten back to their normal lives.
The story follows a man named Emerson Noyes as he embarks on an adventure after being resurrected by a girl called Amalia Winters, whom he meets at Valchita University. Emerson has a virus called "Genocitis". It's a deadly virus that harbors itself into the body, with no ailing effect until 15 days later at which the host dies if it is not treated.
Unfortunately for him, there is no known cure for the Genocitis. But that's not going to stop Emerson. Emerson and his best friend David embark on a journey to find the cure within 15 days. But when Amalia is kidnapped during his absence Emerson goes to save her which leads to a tragic end. Now, Emerson is even more determined to find the cure to save his own life as well as the lives of others who fall prey to this deadly virus.
What Is Eternal Genesis?
If you're thinking that the project title sounds familiar, then let me say yes, this is actually already a thing. Eternal Genesis is my child of sorts. In 2007 I started writing a story for my own RPG. It took me a while to come up with something that didn't involve dungeons and dragons, and legends and chosen ones, and crystals. Then I armed myself with RPG Maker XP and started creating this thing. The game was then put into a hiatus in 2009, then later dropped in favor of a audiodrama adaption of the story. The audiodrama itself is on a VERY long break as well.
Eternal Genesis takes place in the fictional world of Ascensia, with a couple of locations that have influences from Norse mythology. The story follows a 21-year old student named Emerson Noyes who, after a series of events, falls victim to a mysterious deadly virus called “Genocitis”. It’s a deadly disease that slowly begins to take control of the host’s body, where after fifteen days that person will then succumb to Genocitis and die as they become a monster of incredible malice. The main portion of the story chronicles Emerson heading out, looking for a cure for the virus, even though there are no known records of one.
Why The "Rebirth"?
What this is here is essentially a reboot of the RPG. I believe that with RPG Maker VX Ace, the things I wanted to achieve back in the XP days can be done with VX Ace. The "Rebirth" name is there to signify the fact that this is a reboot, plus it's to separate this version from the other old XP one. Plus the world also fits with the theme of the game.
I was 13-14 when I wrote this game and while I do take proud in it, some of the parts in it I feel are quite cringy-anime-cliché at times. If there's any specific games that inspired this, it would be Valkyrie Profile for the mythology and and Final Fantasy VIII for the primary setting. I wanted to do a bit of re-writing on the first stages of the game as well, just to do things differently. With this Rebirth version, I wish to present a heck more of a better game than the old version did, with new features, custom artworks, remastered soundtrack by myself, revised story, among other things.
How Long Will This Be?
If I recall correctly, the game was originally supposed to span across 20-25 chapters. The demo goes up to Chapter 3, the game was developed up to the end of Chapter 6, the audiodrama is at Chapter 9 and the fleshed out writing goes up to about Chapter 15.
Because of the way the audiodrama was handled, the Rebirth version will end up taking longer, as the audiodrama introduced new scenes and new characters that weren't in the game, so these will be given their own proper introduction in the Rebirth version.
You Mentioned A Demo?
Yes, I did. There was a demo, but I do not for the life of me know where you can download it. The link on the RMW page is broken, because the file is no longer there for some reason and I'm not about to upload it again, mainly because I'm embarrased for it and you really do not want to play it. And also mainly due to the next paragraph...
Audiodrama?
Yes. The original version of the game had plans to have voice acting, and the characters were cast. The lines ended up making up the first and second episodes of the audiodrama as well, and from there, Eternal Genesis: The Radioplay was born. The audiodrama overtook the game, and I ended up writing with only the audiodrama in mind.

Eternal Genesis does have a large cast, with 8 main playable characters, as well as guest party members, and a whole guild of mercenaries. You're gonna see some Gaia avatars. These are placeholders. I made these way back when, and they were used as battlers in the old RMXP version. Obviously, I won't be using them this time around, but they do portray what the characters look like overall, so I thought I'd include them, anyway.

Because he was there. Emerson was a witness but was held at gunpoint by a mysterious man, to keep his mouth shut. Now, Marcos must either serve his life sentence or desperately find a way out. Marcos is a cheeky, mischievous character who likes to build things out of anything he finds. He's hoping that with his trusty drill that he made not long before escaping from prison he can overcome any challenges as he searches for the person who framed him.

A beautiful young woman, she is kind and sweet, if a little bit clumsy at times. She's been to the Garden, a heaven-like paradise, where she has lived in the past 6 years.

She may be a girl but she soon proves to them that she's tough and one not to be messed with. Metra harnesses the Matrix element which allows her to bend space and time to her liking, of course, with limitations.

Playable during dream sequences.

The Union X is a guild of mercenaries. As per the name, there are 10 of them, each numbered by rank, with I being the lowest, and X being the highest. They are led by vampiric-looking man, named Geneaux. These lot serve as the primary enemy group force.

Rose killed all the scientists and broke out of GenTek.

Elemental Enhancement System (ESS)
If you read through the character bios, you would've noticed that each and every character has an element. Elements play an important role in this game, and is an integral and core part of Ascensian lore. There are 8 primary elements, those being your stand, Fire, Ice, Water, Thunder, Wind, Earth, Light and Darkness. There are also 4 special elements, Matrix, Nova, Genesis and Omega. They all have their weaknesses, strengths and gimmicks.

Fire - The strong and passionate flames produce attributes such as strength and attack power. Severely weak against Ice, and moderately weak against Water and Wind. Compatible with Earth and Thunder.
Ice - The harsh, yet clear ice produce attributes such as accuracy and dexterity. Severely weak against Fire, and moderately weak against Light. Compatible with Water and Wind.
Thunder - The sharp forms of thunder produce attributes such as majik and mental power. Severely weak against Water. Moderately weak against Ice. Compatible with Fire.
Water - The heavy currents of water produce attributes such as majikal defence and faith. Severely weak against Thunder. Moderately weak against Fire. Compatible with Ice.
Wind - The graceful winds produce attributes such as speed and evasion. Severely weak against Earth. Compatible with Fire.
Earth - The natural bonds of the earth produce attributes such as defense and fortification. Severely weak against Wind. Compatible with Fire.
Light - The holy blessings of light produce attributes such as health and good fortune. Severely weak against Darkness. Compatible with Fire and Earth.
Darkness - The unforgiving shadows of darkness produce attributes such as enigma and bad fortune. Severely weak against Light.
Matrix - A rare element, bearers of this element are capable of controlling time and space to their will, with limitations of course.
Nova - A rare element, bearers of this element are capable of harnessing spiritual energy, being able to see ghosts and spirits.
Genesis - The first element, bringer of life.
Omega - The final element, bringer of destruction.
With the Elemental Enchancement System, taking note of everyone's strengths, weaknesses and compatibility with elements will be key. Eternal Genesis will have characters be able to enforce their element during battle. By doing this, a character will learn stronger skills during battle each time that characters enforces their element. A character can enforce up to a maximum of three times.
Ex: Serene is of the Darkness element. She can choose to Enforce Darkness. By doing this, she can use a turn by enforcing her element and in turn, learn Lv1 Dark Skill: Infernal Darkness. Once she uses Infernal Darkness, that skill will disappear and Serene will have to start her enforcement again. If she repeats this 3 times in a row she can go on to learn Lv.2 Dark Skill: Shadowed Seraph and Lv.3 Dark Skill: Solid Darkstone. If a character over-enhances (i.e. enforces their element more than 3 times), they will suffer 50% of their current HP and be stunned.
In the old version, everyone did have limited skill lists because of this, with everyone having about 7 skills max, for the entire game. With Rebirth, I plan to look into this, and figure out some more ways to implement extended skillsets for the main characters to make battles just a little bit more interesting.
Summons
Summons will be featured in Eternal Genesis. I will explain who the summons are and how they will work.
Name: Ryu

Bio: Ryu is Emerson's counter-part. When Emerson, David, Valerie and Marcos are exploring the " abandoned" GenTek Lab, Emerson is taken to a Genetic Cloning area. As the rest of the party fights their way to save Emerson, they're too late. The process is initiated and the cloning experiment begins. At the end, instead of an Emerson twin, we get a fiery-red panther who shares the same likenesses as Emerson. It also has the Genocitis. The scientists panic, and wonder why the experiment failed. Valerie stated that this is the result of playing God. Emerson is shocked that Ryu could talk. Emerson names him Ryu and joins the party as Emerson's pet.
Summon Ability: When Emerson is attacked by certain enemy attack/spells, Ryu may learn them. When summoned, Ryu will use a learned skill at random. Ryu Search is activated from the menu. This sends Ryu out on a search for items. The item brought back is random and also depends on the continent of Ascensia the player is on.

Bio: Lorelei is Serene's dead sister in the form of a dark einherjar. Lorelei was once the gatekeeper of the Seishin Sekai just like Serene is now. Lorelei was defeated in battle and died 2 years ago. Lorelei is requested by Serene to help with Emerson's quest. Lorelei has long black hair with faint, white highlites near the end. She has beautiful light blue eyes and a sweet yet menacing smile. Wields a scythe just like Serene, called Silver Moon.
Summon Ability: With each einherjar obtained, Lorelei learns a new skill. Lorelei's attack power is increased when Serene's element is fully enhanced at the time of the summoning. Lorelei Detect is activated from the menu. Lorelei uses her spiritual senses to detect the presence of any chests in the area.

Bio: Fietzche is a female phinx. A phinx is a fairy but slightly larger in size and have spiked wings. Most of their clothes are spiky too. But despite their outward appearance they can be pretty friendly, then some have an attitude, like Fietzche. Like all other phinx, Fietzche is from the Garden, the sanctuary of Elohim. Fietzche is a stray phinx who happens to be Celes' best friend. She's out to find out the whereabouts of the missing girl from the Garden. She comes across the party who are also looking for her and joins them.
Summon Ability: Fietzche can only be summoned when Celestine is fully enhanced to her element. With every leaf of the Yggrasil collected, Fietzche may use one of the leaves power to attack the enemies or support the party.
EinherjarsYou might remember me mentioning influences from Norse Mythology. This would be from that. In Norse Mythology, einherjars are warriors that have died in battle, handpicked by a Valkyrie to go to Valhalla. In Eternal Genesis, einherjars may also go to Fólkvangr to serve under Freya. There are 10 Einherjar Summons that can be obtained throughout the game. They work differently from the character summons from before. Einherjars appear in battle at random at the start to do a special attack. Also, Einherjars have abilities that can be equipped to players. Offensive, defensive, auto, bonus abilites can all be junctioned to characters with the powers of the Einherjars. The einherjars are collected throughout the story as canon plot.

Commands & Arts
If you look at the character bios, you'll noticed that each playable character will either have an Art or Command listed. This is gameplay based. Primarily, the yserve as skill/class type names for battle, but they do much more outside of battle. Let's explain.
Arts
They can only be used inside of battle. People who have Art abilites can enhance their stats and gain new skills by completing certain sidequests set for that character. "Character Quests", if you will.
PLAIN EXAMPLE: Emerson has the Swordsmanship Art. Emerson recieves a sidequest to train with a father's son to help grow stronger. You succeed in doing that and you learn a new skill or enhance your stats.
Commands
Commands can be used inside of battle and out on the field. When near certain objects, the player will be prompted to press a certain key to activate that character's Command ability.
EXAMPLE: Metra's Control command is able to halt the movements of Guards or monsters to help you sneak by without getting noticed. Just press the "Q" key when prompted.
Regarding Difficulty
According to feedback from the demo of the old version, it was pretty damn difficult, at least battle-wise. While the difficulty was, at times, a good thing, it got difficult in unnecessary places. So that will be revised in Rebirth. Though I will mention something that contributes to difficulty. There is no such thing as healing magic in Eternal Genesis. Why? This is canon to the story and setting of Eternal Genesis. All healing is done through the use of items, and rest points. Now this made the game really difficult, because I was apparently quite stingy with items in the old version, so I will be revising this also in Rebirth.
So that's more or less most of it! Let me know what you think about how everything sounds so far! I haven't started on Rebirth yet, though database preparations and the like are being made, but real development won't start until the first episode of Palasiel Quest is complete.
