Hello everyone, I'm trying to build and release a commercial game. Of course, I would need to market it on my website. I can't get if I'm allowed to display images on my website where I host the game made with RPGMMV. I would put images of screenshots from the game, but I'd like also to make custom edited content (let's say a group pic collage of the characters, or a funny moving stuffs around the website page). I'm allowed to do that? It's only for marketing/promotional anesthetics, only on my website where the game is hosted.

It would be such the attached website screen: screenshots, pics of characters, some collage of chara pics and stuffs like that. I see many commercial games do that, but just want confirmation! :)

If they are characters out of the RTP or generator, I don't think you can use them on their own. The EULA does only say you can use screenshots.

Maybe do some searching because I know the question has been asked before in various forms.

Hello thanks for replying. I've done my research, but I nonetheless see that many people use the chara and stuffs on their websites outside from just screenshots (if you see the attached file on the previous post, that guy - not the only one - uploaded a character battler figure for display outside of a screenshot)

Many people doing it does not mean it's allowed within the terms of the EULA ;) It just means they either didn't bother checking or don't care.

If your game is commercial, you would probably want to be more careful than they are.

Oh yes of course , you're right.
However, I can't find the screenshot allowance anywhere, but anyone says those are allowed.

I don't think "anyone" is a lawyer. I also don't think you want to be taking critical reading advice from someone with the English skills demonstrated in that screenshot. :stickytongue:

To my reading, this is pretty clear in the MZ EULA Appendix, 2.3 -
Company Assets or those modified pursuant to the previous item may undergo Distribution, etc. with User Games produced with This Software. Furthermore, the User may not perform Distribution, etc. of individual Company Assets or those modified, or Distribution, etc. in combination with programs, etc. other than User Games. However, the User may duplicate, transfer, publicly transmit, or enable transmission of personally-modified Company Assets to other Authorized Users free of charge.

You can use RTP assets, even modified, in your games. You can't use them otherwise unless you're giving them to other RPG Maker owners (e.g. on these forums).

That's pretty lame. What about screenshots? Everyone calling they're allowed, but can't find the reference on the EULA

Screenshots have been allowed as advertising material, but direct use even as decorations required special licences.

The reason why you don't find anything on that is that those special licences were never given publically - those people who want them always were asked to write to Degica in private for legal reasons.

As such there is only one person on the forum who can give an official answer: @Touchfuzzy

thank you everyone. I've contacted the customer support directly. I'll stay with what they will tell to me what I can do and what I cannot. I could ask to them to purchase specific licenses. Thank you everyone for the replies!
I'll stay with the official customer reply opinion. I want to make things the most appropriate as possible and as you all suggested, I must ask to the source :)

At this point, "unique and diverse cast of characters" might as well be slang for Every Character is a Human-Sue.
I found an absolutely brilliant lifehack on the internet today.

It does sometimes get a little embarrassing that I often come here to ask for help with something and seldom have anything to actually show for it. If there is one thing though I can commend myself for, it's for sticking with an idea I've been tinkering with for this long now and gradually making headways. Even though I've been reserved about my progress, I can say I'm farther now than where I initially started.
I'm gonna put my project on pause for a tiny bit so I can explore the engine outside of it... Winging it can only get you so far LMFAO
