Event Help (Quickly needed)

I am using RPG Maker VX ACE for a RPG based off of a book I am making, what I want to happen is that the main character is walking home from school one day (not included in the book) or something like that, and then he randomly gets knocked out. Is there anyway to do this? If you need more info, leave a comment or PM.

EDIT: I have the map ready for it, just the events I need help with.

Also, with events is there a way I can make it so then once the main character finds another person, how do I change the graphic to nothing and make it so then nothing happens if you use it again?

Your description is a bit confusing, so I'll give you a general answer:


Almost every change can be controlled by making multiple pages per event, with each different state using a different event page, and then use switches and conditions to change between those pages as needed.


That is basic eventing, and if you're new to RM I suggest you work on some of the tutorials.

For the character getting randomly knocked out, you'll need to provide more detail. What does "knocked out" mean? You want his sprite to change?


(also, putting "quickly needed" is not going to get you answers any faster. Everybody wants their question answered quickly. I'm sure nobody looks at a title and says "they don't need it quickly, so I'll just ignore it" ;) )

I had the quickly needed part because I only have the trial and I tried doing switches...... but it didn't work ;(

For the knocked out, I mean that the screen will fade out, transport the character to another map and then fade in.

I do mean for his sprite to change, but it will be in the damage lines possibly.

wow - glad I asked, because that's TOTALLY not what I interpret "knocked out" to mean.


Fading out the screen, transporting the character to antoehr map, then fading back in, are all event commands. In fact, the fade out/in are a part of the transfer event command.


I REALLY suggest you read some beginner tutorials. Then write down the sequence of steps you want to happen, and find the appropriate event commands for each one. To trigger it, either use an autorun event (which removes control from the player completely as soon as the map is loaded), or have an event set to Player Touch with priority Below Characters, that the player MUST walk over (so make your map in a way that they HAVE to pass over that tile to get where they want to go).

There is no way to make a complete game in 30 days if you're a beginner - in my opinion you usually need several weeks just to learn how to work with RM if you want to get serious.


Lite has no time limit, but it's limited in the number of objects to place in the game, so it's ideal for small learning games

and I tried doing switches...... but it didn't work ;(
Then please post screenshots of your events and we can check where you made your errors.
Switches do work (they are intended for this and the only way to do it without learning how to program), and if they didn't work for you, then you made a mistake placing the switch commands and switch conditions.


That usually happens if someone wants to advance too fast - you need to learn how to use switch logic before you can use switches correctly...

Page 2 has nothing on it.

I just got RPG maker vx ace yesterday so I will make another test map and mess around and see if I can get it working with your tutorials :D

But, do I have the right events? Or do I need to add Control Switches : [001] OFF?

EDIT: The switch 001 off doesn't help. oh well.

Switches are off by default, and the page conditions check for ON only - if you want to check for OFF you need to use conditional branches.
Which means if you condition a page to a switch, then that page can only become active if the switch is turned ON somewhere in the game.


You have to watch for a similiar limit with variable conditions: the page condition for a variable cannot be set to "equal number X", it will always be "Variable is X OR ABOVE".

i started out with rpgmaker only recently too and i found that 99% of those kind of questions are answered when you read or watch a few basic tutorials. i think it's much more time efficient. It took only 2-3 hours and and i got most of my initial questions i had when i first touched the program answered. Using self switches to control events internally and switches to control global behavior is covered in pretty much every tutorial series out there.

i suggest you read some basic tutorials from andars link or watch at least one series of tutorials on youtube.

They will not cover everything you do - thats when you come back for for more questions :D - but they cover everything everybody does, usually in much more detail than a quick forum post can provide.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
