Event Issue: Move toward player

Hello all,


I am currently having trouble with an event in RMVX Ace. My intention for this event is to spawn an enemy as if he is coming out of another room to chase the player. While I have succeeded in spawning him and setting him to "Move toward player," it isn't long before he vanishes completely.


I will attempt to attach the file so you can see the event page for yourself, but I am new to forums and could very well mess that up  :rswt: . Please let me know if it does not show, and I will try and fix it. Here it is: View attachment Event Issue.xcf. On Event Page 2, all I have is the condition that the Self Switch A is turned On. I did this because the event was originally repeating itself without end, and I read somewhere that adding the Self Switch stopped that from happening.


So essentially I'd like for the enemy to spawn and chase the player throughout the map, but he vanishes a second after he spawns. Why is that?

what is an xcf file?  Please attach a jpg or png file to your post.


Also, issues with events not working as you want them to should be posted in the Support forum for the engine you're using.  Tech Support is for when you can't get the editor itself to run properly, or troubles with installation.


edit: is xcf GIMP?  IIRC you can get a jpg or png from GIMP with the Export option.  A lot of people won't have GIMP, but EVERYONE will have something that's capable of viewing a jpg or png file.

No, don't post again.  If you post in the wrong place, you can just report your post and ask the mods to move it.


You didn't show your second page for that event, so I'm going to assume it has no sprite.  What's happening is that you've set the event to move towards the player, and then you've turned on a self switch, which makes the other page active.  That means as soon as the scrolling is done (or maybe even before then, as I don't know if the scroll command has a wait), the second page will be active and the sprite will disappear.


Based on the fact that you have the event conditioned by switch 1 (which you haven't named - go and do that straight away, before you accidentally use the switch for something else).  What I'd do here is get rid of the self switch stuff and the move route stuff, then take ALL of those commands and put them into the event that turns on switch 1.  Then make this event's Autonomous Movement set to Approach (so they'll approach the player without you needing to set a move route), and change the trigger to Event Touch. Then in the command list you can add the commands you want to run if/when the event catches the player.  This could involve turning on self switch A if you want it to disappear (if it's game over, you wouldn't worry about that).
