I'm new to RpgMaker VX ACE, and I am confused as to how I'm supposed to have a walking NPC, with a move route, but have the clear roof above them as well. For the NPC page, I have through, and walking anim enabled, along with parallel process. For the clear roof page, I have through, walking anim, action button, and above characters. When I do a test run, to, y'know, test it, the little kid NPC is missing. The roof stays, and functions like the rest of the roofs(because it's clearly more important than a human life). How do I make it seem as though they are two separate events on one tile?

Your description is a bit incomplete, it would have been better if you've given screenshots of your event pages. However, a few possible problems can be read from it.

1) an event can only move to the same place as another event if one of them has "through" checked, otherwise events block each other - even if they're invisible.

2) parallel process should NOT be used to make NPCs walk. Parallel processes should be used as sparingly as possible and only where needed to reduce the lag.

It's better to use autonomous movement instead of a set move route on parallel. Especially because the move route gets reset when it is issued again and parallels automatically loop.

3) if an event has several pages that arte valid (have no conditions or all conditions are fulfilled), only the page with the highest number will be executed and the rest ignored. That is caused by page priority.

If you're new, I suggest you follow the link to the starting point in my signature and work through those tutorials to learn the basics of RM.

I've moved this thread to Ace Support. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

Screen shots of your event pages would be most helpful along with maybe a bit more detail of what you are trying to accomplish. But @Andar is right, going through some or all of the tutorials is a great idea.

The NPC event is supposed to start underneath a roof that's clear, but the only way I know how to make the roof half transparent is to set the move route of the roof page to opacity=110. Is there some to make the roof tile transparent through the resource manager, or tileset?

You just edit the image to make it transparent.

not if you just want to change the transparency.  Select the 32x32 tile, change transparency, save.  Simple.

Keep in mind though, you won't want to do this for autotiles, as you can't put two autotiles on top of one another (a floor layer and a roof layer) - you would have to copy the appropriate part of the autotile onto the B-E tileset and make THAT transparent.  Autotiles are a bit more difficult than regular tiles, as what shows up as 32x32 on your map starts out as a 64x64 image and you need to select the appropriate part of that image.

There's a few things you can do. Shaz's suggestion would be the easiest to setup, you would just need several events to cover the entire roof. Most of your solutions are going to require some sort of photoshop program that can save transparency.

Here's some other suggestsions:

You can create a picture file of just your transparent roof using a Fixed Picture Script with Show Picture that would place it over your screen. Just remember to use Erase Picture when you exit the map.

You can create a !$Character_File (note: Character_File is only a suggestion and not mandatory) of your roof.

You would need to figure out the tile dimensions of your roof and then create that roof in your character file. Keep in mind that the character file is going to be a 3x4 tileset. If your roof is 4 tiles by 4 tiles, then the character file would need to be 12 32x32 tiles wide, and it's height would be 16 32x32 tiles. This would also allow you 11 other spots to use for other situations similar to this, granted they fit inside the 4x4 sprite. Ingame, you would simply set the event to that character sprite of your transparent roof, check Direction Fix and set Priority to Above Character.

I didn't suggest events at all.  I suggested B-E tiles as the roof, transparent.  I definitely would NOT do this with events.

Oh my god... Why didn't I think of this before? Thanks, Shaz!

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
