Hey guys, fairly new to RPG Maker and I was looking for a bit of help if possible. I'm looking to have an what an NPC says triggered by an event but for the life of me I can't work it out.

If anyone has any tips on this I'd really appreciate it, I did have a look through some other topics that were similar to mine but none of them helped me out.

You need to explain more. Show Text shows text, obviously. Put it on whatever event you want to trigger the dialogue. If it's a case of you want to CHANGE what an NPC says based on whether they've triggered the event or not, that's all about using switches and (maybe) multiple event pages.

It's pretty simple to grasp, so I'm thinking if you don't get it, you must be doing something a little unusual. Explain the sequence and we'll help you out.

If you're new to the program, you might want to follow the link in my signature and work through the tutorials described there.

By the end of the event you want to trigger the NPC, switch ON any empty switch. Say, switch001. Now go to the desired NPC, put a conditional branch in case switch 001 is ON and have him say what you want him to say. ^^

That is NOT the optimum solution - don't use switches to trigger other events, command them directly.

The event pretending to be the NPC does not need to be the same event as the one containing the show text commands - on the contrary in a cutscene without player movement it is very important to have ALL commands inside a single controlling event, and have all other events be nothing more than empty placeholder for the sprite.

Spreading commands of a single scene upon several events creates more bugs (especially the difficult to pin down time and parallel bugs) than any other possible cause in eventing.

Please read the following blog for more details:

Sorry, wrote this when I was half asleep and reading it again now I wouldn't be able to figure out what was meant.

So basically I've got something blocking a path on one map and once the event has been triggered to clear said path I'd like the dialogue of an NPC, who is an entirely different map, to change.
Cheers, I'll have a look at that link just now and work through the tutorials.

This is a very standard usage of switches :) go read up on those tutorials.

To simplify it even more: X changes (NPC dialogue) when Z happens (path has been cleared). Z will turn on a switch, and X will use this switch to change.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
