event trigger another event?

hi! i made an account here just for this :D I'm kinda new to rpgmaker vx ace, so bear with me. srry if this was asked before.

here's the situation:
i need an npc to appear only after i take a specific item. they shouldn't be on the map before that.
how do i do that? i tried switches and conditional branches. they work, kinda. the dialog i want the npc to have appears after i take the item, but they're on the map before i do that, just walking around doing nothing. pls help?

Hello and welcome. Regarding your issue you just need to set up the event so that its first page has no graphic. You can have a second page for that event with the NPC graphic that uses a certain switch as condition. All that is left is just turning on the switch when the player obtains the item you mentioned.

Actually, unless you want events to roam the map and thus give the initial empty page the "Through" flag, you don't even need the empty page to begin with; the page that uses the requirement would be sufficient. Saves you some processing due to how the engine is coded.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
