Ever played unrelated music over a game because you were tired of the in-game music?

Have you ever played unrelated music over a game because you were tired of the in-game music? I used to play other music while playing "The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind" back in the day. Sometimes if I'm playing a game late and can't turn the volume up, I'll listen to music on my laptop with headphones. I recently did this while playing "Dark Souls" with "Zelda Ocarina of Time" temple music. It was an interesting expereince and I thought I'd ask if anyone else has done this before?

Yep.I've done it.I was walking around in Skyrim, tired of the Whiterun music and the gibberish guards said, then I put on headphones, played dupstep, stocked up,and went hunting some dragon.A dragon fight with dupstep is like the most epic moment in my whole gaming life.

Not because of tired of the in game music, but I do remember when I was younger our PC didn't have a sound card, and some of the games didn't use the PC speaker (ex: Privateer), so the games were silent. So, I put on the radio instead. I have to admit, it is a little...different...to be fighting the Kilarthi when Phil Collins comes on the radio.

I could never have tolerated the endless hours I spent leveling up to fight the legacy bosses in Dragon Quest IX otherwise.

No, but sometimes I play unrelated music over a game just because I feel like listening to unrelated music.

I sometimes do that, if the game is an action game it will have a high chance. I'm not mentioning Touhou, if ones play Touhou and listening to other music that's crazy.
There was a time when I play this game, If you know Online Game called

Ran Online
The game BGM is really dull and awful.
I play that game sometimes(But that was 2 years ago) with listening to this :
1. Larval Stage Planning - Trip -innocent of D -
2. Larvar Stage Planning - Sympathy -
3. O-Zone Dragostea Din Tei (I love this)
4. Linkin Park -Numb-
5. T.M Revolution - Heart of Sword -
6. Yellow Monkey - Tactics -
7. Linkin Park - What I've Done -
8. Tiger Baby - Chinese Fairytale -
9.  Yonekura Chihiro - Butterfly Kiss -
I even make playlist for it. :)

Oh, Heavens, all of my Yes!

Good old Diablo - I was thoroughly bored with the in-game music, so I disabled it and tossed a random CD into the drive instead.

Suffice to say, chopping up skeletons with a huge axe felt a bit weird with

playing... :)

Also, Towns. Ye Gods, that soundtrack puts me to sleep. o_O Fortunately, swapping out the .ogg file is a simple thing, and I've got a quite substantial music library to pick from - though I'd prefer the option of setting up an .mp3 playlist in the game. Ah, well...

Can't say that I have. I like to immerse myself in the game I'm playing, and the music is part of that experience.

I'm a bit of a snob/purist when it comes to stuff like this, actually. I like to play games just as the developers intended, and substituting a part of it for something else is blasphemy in my book. If I find the music too annoying to ignore, I just turn it off and play with sound effects only.

But... but... Tristram...

I have a setup where I can listen to my ps3 and pc at the same time, so often I will turn off the music in the game but leave the sound effects on, and play other music over it through my pc. That way I still get the voices and sounds in, but I get to choose my own music regardless of whether or not the game allows it.

My brother plays unrelated music no matter what if he's playing on his PC. (95% of the games he plays)

Absolutely, some games are totally tied to particular albums for me. GTA 1 on the PC was great because you could put your own CD in after starting the game and skip tracks using the in-game radio! Good times.

Sometimes, but rarely. I've never done it with a game that I was really immersed in, like Dragon Age or Skyrim or Halo or even Lollipop Chainsaw. But sometimes with Harvest Moon or Pokemon, I get really sick of the soundtrack, and then I'll put on different music. I've also done it in Final Fantasy while grinding hardcore.

Only when the ost is terrible. For instance: FF13: Any barthadelus fight. Sure, the song is pretty cool, but it's just not good when listening for the hours that make up the battle. Jet Set Radio Future, the final area with the final boss, I used to hate the music because it was strange, so I'd just listen to another theme in my head while fighting. Now I can't get enough of it. :p

Editing to add something: The Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance ost is awesome, if it's remastered to sound like actual intruments. That game's use of chiptune was not well liked, but it's an amazing game. Nrr...

Probably, but I can't think of any examples. I usually don't play games with bad music, or bad sound production.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
