Your pixel art is so cool and beautiful! The Adol + Darm Tower is definitely my favorite, loved the way the bottom half of the tower fades. Good job!
I found this thread searching for a pixel art tutorial, haha. Felt a sudden urge to learn it. Do you have any tutorial or site to recommend for a newbie? :)

Now that I've gotten much better than I was when I made that piece, I think it's pretty lame stylistically ahaha. But that was all I could do artistically at the time. But I'm really glad you recognized Adol and especially Darm Tower. Cheers fellow Ys lover!

And sorry I probably won't be able to give you much pointer in terms of tutorial. I honestly only started with this one, and then went to explore the craft myself. I think the best practice is to just keep practicing a lot and frequent pixel art sites in search of inspiration. Although you probably should avoid getting too involved into those communities. You don't wanna be indoctrinated by pixel conservatives.

It looks amazing to me, haha! Maybe after studying pixel art I'll spot errors and stuff. =P
Thanks for the tutorial, it is huge and looks like a good start, that's what I was looking for! I downloaded the GraphicsGale yesterday but was kinda lost.

Dang ... been a while since I last actually did any pixel art >_> ;

P.S: Shovel Knight is awesome. You guys should really play that game. Fantastic combination of retro atmosphere and modern game designs.

I swear every time I look at this thread I want to write something, anything besides the only word that goes through my head, which is WOW! I'm absolutely mind blow! I really don't know what to say! Your pixel art is just amazing and SO WELL DONE! Those tile sets have the most lovely pallet! And seeing Metal Gear there just makes you win at life, I want to take him out of this pixels, squeeze and never let go!

Everytime someone praises my art I can't help but feel kinda bad, because I feel like my pixel art skills are still nowhere near those of a competent pixel artist, and because I know I'm not doing it "right". I'm pretty bad at animating, and even though I say I'm okay at texturing, it's all rather an excuse to cover up flaws, with clusters of indistinguishable pixels, or my disability to efficiently use pixels. We have a lot of pixel artists on the site who pixel very efficiently (like Sharm, VE, or yourself included too) and I think I still have to learn a lot from them all. It's just that they don't show off their work in here like I do ahaha. Like why am I getting the compliments and stuff, if you know what I mean.

But whooops, sorry for rambling. I really appreciate your kind words in any case :)

You are getting compliments because the work is good.  Thankfully your internal judgement and checks aren't projected onto fans and viewers =3

It deserves praising! I wasn't kidding when I said, i adore you pallet! It's very unified and the contrast balances out. I only wish i could have such a skill as you, or Sharms or VE. What I really appreciate the most is that you are treating it like pixel art and use the minimal amount of colors, this is something I HAVE TO work on since I still treat is as a digital painting rather than a new technique. There is nothing you can learn from me except for my mistakes. I'm sure if someone experienced saw how I work on my battlers they would cringe... A LOT! You are getting compliments because this is great work and a lot us appreciate it! Especially someone like me who needs constant inspiration from just looking through art of my peers. :) This is something that wants me to strive to do better so I could be as good as you or Sharm, or Vexed or Celianna or any other artist around this forum! This is amazing work and don't say you don't deserve compliments. People wouldn't write it if it wasn't true.

Heh, I know what you mean, EvilEagles, I feel the same way a lot.  I'm horrible at animation, and I think that a lot of my art is stiff and uninspired.  Just get better at your artistic foundations stop working around your weaknesses and they'll become your strength.  Your pixel technique is very good, don't feel guilty that people like that.  Embrace it and use it to power you forward but don't let it get to you and undermine your ability to improve.

This is the reason you're on EE's list, Bukarett, your artistic foundation is stronger even though EE's pixel ability is better.  You'll get there.

And this is why I have to cajole folks like yourself to repost the great stuff I have by them tucked away on my hard drive!

/me peeks at her "evileagles" folder and sighs....

This is the epitome of what I think is the sweetest spot in pixel art. If you inspect closely, you'll realize that the artist used very few colors and short color ramps (and honestly zero redundant colors), and still managed to illustrate the textures very well. The interesting thing about pixel art is that the more efficient you are with it, the less work you have to do and actually the BETTER quality you can make. The key is efficiency and not just conserving colors. This requires both artistic skills and pixel techniques to be mature, the former of which I don't think I have much of. But that is what I want to be one day.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
