Hey everyone,
I recently joined this forum because I'm so hyped for the upcoming rpg maker fes for Nintendo 3DS.
Until 3 years ago I used to program with rpg2k3, but my projects always failed when it came to the point where custom graphics where needed.
That's actually the thing where I see an advantage but also a Challenge in the new portable maker. You have to build your game with preset sprites/tilesets, the challenge is to still give an unique game experience.

I always loved to program my own menues, own battle systems, playing with variables and switches.
Since there won't be the option to program a picture based menu/bs, I'm planning an Sideview BS on an extra map, using the char-sprites. As far as I now (by watching several videos/screenshots of Japanese Games) it is possible to do so :)

I'm very excited to get the rpg maker fes into my Hands on June 23rd (EU-Release)!!
Until then I will continue planning the story, characters and game mechanics!

Anyone Else excited for rpg maker fes?

'General Discussion' is about aspects of making games, not the engines we might use to make them.

I'm excited and not, let me explain. I use RPG Maker MV, so i don't need that program. However, i'm excited because I want my friends that don't have computers to buy it and prove their games! And I could help them, and all that stuff. I hope I find a way to convice them to buy it...

I am excited for the simple fact that I can use Fes as a sort of "sketch pad" for projects that I can move to any of the PC RPG Makers. It might be on par with 2k, but that's why I want it. A shame it can't support some imported content, but alas...

I'm sort of excited, but sort of not. It seems like a fun way to make games on the go, but it also seems like a waste of time, since the game cannot be as full as one made on a PC.

It seems like a fun waste-of-time, but this is only a toy, basically. This is just my opinion, please don't get offended. :kaoswt:

This is true, but I find it fun to make the greatest game I can dealing with restraints. Like RPG Maker 1 for the Playstation... Using items as variables and that kind of thing.

I want to make a cute little game that is by no means epic but kind of fun and hopefully surprising that I can pull it off with such limitations.

I dunno, @Arisa-Chan. I see it as you can make a template for games you wish to make in full, or even small adventures to share with people on the go. There's a lot of different possibilities to be had. I'm actually pretty excited about it and hope to be able to get a 3DS cheap soon so I can buy Fes and give it a go.

Just my thoughts on it. Not everyone is going to like it. I personally do for those reasons I stated and because I love DS resources. They really are my favorite. Still, I will see what I can make with it. Who knows. Might be pretty awesome, haha!

Got my copy a day early... apparently. It's a thing. Not much to say about it and anyone who knows about the console RPG Makers knows exactly what this has to offer.

Typing long cutscenes is very tedious without a keyboard, some basic event functionality is slightly different, map creation without a mouse takes much longer than you would think it should. On top of that, no importing resources, music, or plugins. Your stuck with what the engine gives you, which wouldn't be a problem if some tools are very limited.

I'm currently trying to remake my recent RPG Maker 2000 game, but I have to maked changes because they apparently don't give you as many options compared to a seventeen year old game creation software.

Not to say I'm not enjoying it, but it was probably a better value to buy the game to have the rights to the game's resources in the PC engines (Stated in the CD case), then the value of the game itself. That's my two cents.

I may pick it up but I'm not sure. I don't really like working with the RTP but I feel like it'd be a fun way to mess around with events and such when I'm out and about. Might also be nostalgic. I used to play the old PS2s RPG Makers like crazy.

I'm more excited to use "RPG Maker FES Player" to check out the games. I actually had an idea for a portable device that lets you play RPG Maker games specifically, but I was told by people here that it was a bad idea in pretty much every way. Apparently it wasn't entirely bad, but it definitely needed tweaking in execution. A mere app is a better solution than a dedicated device, but the core idea was still used for RPG Maker FES Player. In the future a similar app would be cool for phones, but one that is built in tandem with whatever the next RPG Maker may be for maximum functionality.

Anyway, if anybody knows of a good, full game on the app please tell me about it!

Finally got a chance to sit down and play it today.

It looks like this is going to be fun, but I noticed I'm already at 10% storage space with just three maps and a couple of events and items.

It's decently powerful but, yeah, you have to use the RTP. On the subject of the RTP, has anyone got any downloadable content yet? I checked it out but either it didn't load or there's nothing there yet.

Don't worry too much about storage space, it starts at 9-10 percent.

Twin Peaks may have stolen my idea for my Fes game before I even wrote it. I'll have to wait and see what happens on Twin Peaks... May have to alter my story. It's okay if I do, it's really only a small part of the story.

I'm still kind of begging for DLC. ...Then again, it's not so much the DLC, it's being left in the dark. Other countries got it at launch, but not America? Why don't we have it? When can we expect it? And other questions that the devs REFUSE to acknowledge. I'm at the point where I have a nasty suspicion that we might not get DLC at all. Maybe the devs hate America or something. That's how it's starting to feel.

Degica is neither developer nor distrubutor for RM FES - we have absolutely nothing to do with that, so we simply can't answer any question about it. You'll have to search the internet to find the people responsible for distributing it to America and ask them those questions.

I never said you were the distributor or developer. From what I can tell, NIS America seems to be behind the DLC (or at least the Disgaea DLC we're supposed to get), but they just keep ignoring people who ask for very basic info and answers.
