NOTE: Can't seem to be able to edit the title, I meant "Expand & Collapse".

Hey, I'd like to suggest a feature I've been craving for a long time. As someone who does very extensive events, event editors become cluttered and confused pretty fast, even with the comment tool things get really disorganized and if you've got very extensive events you have to scroll down a lot to get to the command you wish to change (it's also hard to distinguish what is it that you want to change if you use a lot of similar commands.) like this:

(This goes on for a while)

I've used RPG Maker for a lot of years and in my opinion this would be a most welcomed addition.
After this extensive introduction, here's the formal request.

Description of the Feature:

  • Add the option to collapse and expand event blocks that contain commands inside of them, like Conditional Branches, Choices, Loops, Battle Processing, etc. In addition to that, add an event command that creates a Group that can be expanded and collapsed as well, so that the developer can better organize their code. The user can also name this Group so they can better identify its content whe it's collapsed. The state of the collapsed and expanded events is saved how it was left.
There should also be a feature to open all and close all sub-events by Alt-clicking their parent event, in case the developper has many collapsed sub-events and wishes to open them all at the same time.
This is a very common feature other engines and IDEs have and it would be a very helpful addition to RPG Maker.

Mockups:
Expanded Events:
Collapsed Events:

Why is this feature good?
This feature is great because of the following:

  • For better organization and workflow improvement.

Possible issues with this feature?
Issues that might arise from this feature:

  • Can't think of anything.

I like this. This is how most event systems work, like StarCraft2's eventing system. Heck, I think SC1 did it too and that is from the 90s.

This would eventing soooo much easier and streamlined.

I could see it possible being a big re-write on how the code is displayed though...
Either way, Big ol +1 from me.

@Blue001 Thanks so much for your comment! Especially for those of us who do a lot of eventing, having a cleaner event sheet would help greatly.

If this does get added, I hope it'll save the state of what is collapsed/expanded when we close the event editor.

Yes that would be an important feature. I'll add it in the description just in case.

I'd LOVE to have this feature. Imagine Common Events that store cutscenes or conversations, or variable checks... I can't see anything but positive traits in it.

Yes, yes and yes. A brilliant feature suggestion that should’ve been in MV from the start.

Make it happen! :kaojoy:

Who said no??!!!!! And why?
I wouldn't know where to start and don't see an end if I would list the pros of this.
I just started rmmv like 10 days ago and the movement routes already annoy me soooo much.
I can't think of any contras either.

@AGiant I've been using rpg maker for more than 10 years, and something like this would definitely improve the workflow and make the software more developer friendly and professional, in my opinion.

However, it doesn't matter how good these ideas seem, I highly doubt any will ever be implemented. I've seen other requests that got way more attention and likes than this one, and not even a response from degica on wether or not they would implement and why.

Don't want to be a bad sport about it, but honestly, posting in this Board and making suggestions is a waste of time.

I'm new to rmmv (or rpg maker in general) so I don't have much experience but if I look at the approved thread or the suggestions thread I presume that it might be the case :kaosigh:

Yeah. Unfortunately it seems like very few (if any?) suggestions from this forum is ever lifted. Even though there are quite a few good ones that I imagine wouldn't be THAT difficult to implement. This one being one of them.

I can only assume KADOKAWA is putting all it's resources into developing the next RPG Maker since we've not gotten many updates as of late either. I guess they're mostly done with this engine and now they're just doing some minor maintenance / conservation work to keep their user baser. Stuff like putting on events and such is a good example of this.

The only positive thing about this is that now that Yanfly is gone, no updates means that his library of plugins (which is ABSOLUTELY essential to any RM engine), will remain relevant and up to date.

If they consider taking many suggestions of this threads into account I could even accept a new RPG maker ( would appreciate it for this one though XD)

Yanfly is gone?

Sorry Aerith... I will abandon your shoes... :guffaw:
Spent a whole bunch of time today reworking the area in the video because someone said it was too illusory. So I reworked it so it changes less, moved the grass up to the same level as the player.... And found enough extra resources to make the grass moves when the player touches it. Also lots more water, because it looks amazing. I'll probably put up a short updated video later today.
I never noticed how NOISY birds can be in the morning..
The worst part of writing the thesis is getting to a point where it's nearly done and you feel like an 8th-grader could've written something on that level.
