This might be a quasi-dumb question. I'm still learning the ropes with RPG Maker VX Ace and working on a "test" project. That being said I played around with RPG Maker back in the early 2000s (I forget which version). I was wondering, I know the engine can output games in .exe format for windows. Is it possible to have it put out files that can run on Android or iOS. If not is there a way to convert an RPG Maker game to either of those OSs? I ask this question because a game on iOS called Doom and Destiny looks 100% like it was made with RPG Maker.

The possibility of a 3rd party method is there, since you can make a program that can read and interpret the game files of an RM game... But AFAIK, there's no official method/program that does that

There was a program (from reading other threads about the topic) that somehow does it, but it requires your project to be unencrypted for it to work (if I remember correctly)...

and there is also the possibility that they used the RM stuff, which unless they got permission from EB, is not allowed... this already happened before on an android game I believe

So to answer the question, no, the engine cannot directly do that.

There is an app called Neko RPGXP Player for Android. Its fully compatible with games made with RPG Maker XP. It can play some RPG Maker VX and Ace games, but that functionality is still in beta stages.

You can use this program to PLAY the game in Android. So far, I tested my RMXP game with this and 100% it does not work. I tried my VX Ace game and it DID NOT work. Though, you can always try it, maybe it would work on yours.

But other than that, Ace does not have a feature of exporting games to such platforms.

Some discussion on their forums

While RM gets a lot of heat on desktop, it definitely does its job when it comes to making mobile games. All of the mobile RM games have been extremely successful.

so I guess it's settled then, they made their own interpreter (based on the last two posts on the thread)

@Hime - pretty normal I'd say... most heat from desktop comes from graphics discussions, especially 3D fans. and you won't really expect awesome 3D in mobile. Plus I think the mobile players are more diverse than PC players. A lot of people that I know for example that doesn't play RPGs and any of the high-end PC games play RPGs on mobiles

RM should really have out-of-the-box support for mobile releases, that will really help a lot.

It sounds that way from what I understand. However they never really confirm or deny it. They did say something about GeexEngine... not sure what that is and my google search on it is coming up cryptic.

From what I understand:

They made their own, and because of that they know it is hard to do... so they suggest to the one giving the questions that it might be easier to just contact Enterbrain and ask for licenses etc for use in another engine of sorts. All the more since they don't know of any publicly available program that might be able to run RM games aside from the GeexEngine which after my search seems to be still in development, and is somekinda an engine on itself

Its possible that the interpreter used to run this game through an app is their own work, and I guess that was what my question entailed: is this actually what they did, or is their an easier, more ready-made solution for doing this? I'm also fairly new to Win8 / WP apps as well, so I also don't know their structure either

in which the answer was

Yes, that's what we did.

Unfortunately as far as i know there is no publicly available system other than GeexEngine to port rpg-maker gamer.

Well that's kinda a dead end then. On the bright side it won't stop me from doing what I enjoy which is making a fun game. Perhaps some day down the road someone will make a program that can convert the files or read them on iOS/Android. I'd write something myself but my understanding of coding is limited. I'm still just picking it up and learning.

you can try the linked program on some of the posts above for a droid emulator of sorts that allows some RM games to be played...

True, I guess it was a dream of mine to one day distribute my game to the public via Google Play or App Store. Anyways I'm probably jumping the gun as I have a long ways to go before I get to that point.

That project has special permission to be exported to Android, and they used their own exporter.

Maybe someday we will be able to export to different devices, but until then, don't count on it.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
