Take 2:
Hello everyone,
As many of you realized we had our longest maintenance period in the history of our forums. This was partially against the staffs will, and I personally have barely slept a wink since the 22nd.
We have been in the process of upgrading our forums to a new system, but unfortunately we've needed the support of Invision Power Services for a very unique issue during the upgrade process.
The only way to get support on this said issue was to have our board partially upgraded to the new system. As the issue we're having is so unique, a developer of the software, Ryan, has been working to find a fix. After not hearing from him for 24 hours, I restored the backup to before the upgrade. Of course, 10 minutes afterwards he got back to me and let me know the fix was finished. Terrible timing and luck on my end...
Eager to make sure the down time wasn't for nothing (and eager for the community to experience the awesome new features I and Archeia are really excited about), I restored a backup to the forums to when they were upgraded, only to be told the fix needs to be applied during the upgrade process (take a moment to imagine the look on my face). So I restored the backup to before. Again.
At this point, I can only assume that Ryan had to call it a night (understandably) and I have decided to just turn the forums back online and postpone the upgrade. Ryan did make mention that this fix will be in the next software update, so when that is released I'll go ahead and do the upgrade then.
The bottom line:
I am extremely sorry for the inconvenience, and I'm going to work hard to make sure we don't have any extended down time like this again in the future.
Once Ryan figures out what we need, we'll come up with a game plan to make sure that when we do finally do the upgrade again, that there is as little down time as possible (nothing beyond 3-5 hours at most).
Thank you for your patience everyone, and sorry again about the delay.
At this point, I want to give a special thanks to Ryan Ashbrook at IPS, as he's been very helpful in helping us get this figured out.
As soon as the latest version of the software is out, I'll make arrangements to test an install of our forums with Ryan to make sure everything goes smooth before we take the live forum offline (this wasn't an option before, which is why this took so long).
So thank you VERY much for all your help, Ryan. You've gone above and beyond!!
I'm going to go (try to) get some sleep now
