Failed to copy folder

I just downloaded the trial version of rpg maker xp and whenever I try to make a new project, it says "Failed to copy folder.". How do I fix this?

Hrm? This could be that it's trying to create a new project within one of your default data folders (ie, your RTP folder or the folder holding your default data).

When you make a new project, try changing the Location: by selecting the DESKTOP itself, and then creating a project folder in your desktop like MyTest. Again, your default pathway might be pointing to something like your RTP or System\Project folder, a folder holding your default data.

I wouldn't put it on your desktop (as everything on the desktop gets loaded when you boot your computer, so it'll slow it down a bit).

Stay away from any Windows-owned or Windows-created files - things like My Documents, Program Files ... it's okay to install the engine into that location, but don't put your projects in any of them. With Program Files you'll have permission issues (which is probably what's happening here), and with My Documents ... Windows Update can't be trusted to leave it alone. Also don't put it in any location that has a live sync to an online repository, as poor timing between closing the engine and shutting down your computer could leave you with corrupted files if they're trying to sync at the time.
