Failed to load: img/tilesets/custom tileset

Hello all, I’m working on a game for my game development class in University and I’ve stumbled upon an issue. Just for clarification, the actual error message is failed to load: img/tilesets/HC_Sewer&FactoryA4.png

I just wanted it to be clear that it is having trouble with this custom tileset.

I have seen on the forums that this probably means one of the files got corrupted, and I should try to delete the data file for the tileset? Though I wanted to mention that I can run both the distribution and the Playtest within the RPG Maker MV program fine, it is only when someone else (I have only tested it on one person) tries to download the distribution folder and run the .exe that we get this error message.

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated, I unfortunately don’t have any backups, but the game itself isn’t too long as of yet. I could probably redo the 3 levels, but if it is salvageable that would be preferable and I would like to know the root of the issue so I can avoid it going forward.

Side Note: Would deploying it to a web browser potentially alleviate this issue? What about something like itch.io?

& is not a valid character for a file name. Remove that, and the same for any other file that has unusual characters. You can get away with some things when you play test, but when you deploy, all your path and file names must follow network naming rules.

Make sure your image ends with .png and not .PNG
Also make sure it doesn't end with .png.png (yes, I've seen it done) - to do this you'll need to go to that folder and change your settings to show extensions so you can see the entire file name.


to answer your questions:
No, don't delete the data for the tileset. The data is in data/tilesets.json and the image is in img/tilesets/HC_Sewer&FactoryA4.png - they are completely different, and independent files. Only the scripts say there is a relationship between them.
Deploying to a web browser would not make a difference.

I really think it's more to do with the filename than the file itself being corrupt.

Sorry for the late response, but I managed to test it and that was indeed what was wrong. Thank you for the help! Now I just need to figure out how to implement a timer. I am trying to set up a radiation system that kills you if you take too long completing the game...

If you need assistance with that, you'll have to post a new thread (one problem = one thread). This should go into the MV Support forum, as Tech Support is for problems getting the editor to load and run properly, rather than for errors on playing or help with "how to do stuff".

If this question is resolved, just report your first post and let the mods know, and they will lock the thread for you (maybe ask them to move it to MV Support as well, which they'll be happy to do).

Oh right it wasn’t supposed to be a legitimate question, more so just what I plan on tackling next. I wasn’t sure where to post this current one though or that I needed to inform a mod that the problem was resolved, so thank you for letting me know! You’ve been a huge help, cheers!

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
