Hey, everyone. I just come-up with two ideas, and seeking for some feedback on them.

First

How do you think if some fantasy RPG have fancy classnames? Provided a sample;

  • Knight: as Swordslasher
  • Wizard: as Manadropper or Staffblower
  • Healer: as Magicdoctor
  • Holy Mage: as Spiritwisher
Those highlighted names aren't so important, I just used them as a placeholder for now since I can't use energy to think for a very specific one at the moment.

Second

Not hundred percent sure if someone already asked this. How about for unique classes that are never seen or seen on a very few games? Here's a sample;

  • Dark Healer - Healer who uses dark damage skills mostly, heals allies as well.
  • Starknight - Uses holy attacks mostly, a sword and shield in battle.
  • Moonfighter - Equipped with gloves with an unique emerald that empowers in night, have a good amount of brutal skills.
  • Sunbower - The more he/she praises the sun, the more energy his/her bow absorbs from the sunlight.
  • Card Healer - Healer, wears violet hoodie mostly. Heals allies by throwing playing cards that disappears when thrown at their body and victim starts to grow his/her HP.
  • Star - A real, tiny star. Shines to deal holy damage to foes, can also heal allies.
That's all folks. Let me know what you think. :)

Looks good so far. I love unique classes/class names :p
If you're stumped or looking for inspiration I suggest looking at some of the qualities of what define the class and make it unique or how they are incorporated into your story and using that as inspiration.

Here are a few of the various class titles I'll be using in my game:
Weaponmaster (stems from the Samurai and Viking class in my game)
Medium (stems from the Healer or Wizard class)
Astromancer (stems from the Wizard or Shaman class)

Spiritwalker (stems from the Shaman class)
Mogul (stems from the Merchant class)

Wrangler (stems from the Laborer base-class)

Most of my base-classes(Swordsman, Apprentice, Ranger, and Laborer) and 1st advancement classes(e.g. Knight, Samurai, Viking if you chose to play a swordsman, Healer, Wizard, Shaman if you chose to play an Apprentice, etc) have fairly generic names, which helps to make the final advanced classes sound more badass, in my opinion >=D

RMMV
I remember a thief-like class being named 'Slasher' in one of the Suikoden games and I thought it was a great change of pace from the typical names.

Done right, it could add some immersion. Done wrong, and it can actually get quite irritating when everything seems like a forced attempt at renaming everything to sound unique.

I've thought of...

Spell Weaver:(actually someone thought of that name for me) The character has charms

and spells she can learn from books.

Each book comes with a spell and a charm. So here's a book+spell example:

Instinct Journal= Charm:Quick Claw/Spell: Commanding Whip

Manipulator: They can command enemies and allies to do whatever...

Stay down(no reviving allowed, maybe?), beat yourself up, beat that guy up, float, go underground etc.

Beast King/Deity: You know, the class that attacks with animals. I'd likely need an actual animal character to be their partner for extra effect.

The first two are from a given-up project... hopefully I can revive these classes ;-;

I'm sorry but I could not think of anything but dirty things when I read 'Staffblower'.

Creative names are cool. It'd be great if the original names still referenced what they did exactly though, because it'll be easier to remember that way. This game for example, has classes with fancy names like Dievdirbys and Cataphrakts and I haven't the slightest idea what they do from the name alone. Hell, I don't even know how the first one is pronounced.

Cataphrakts is just a different spelling of Cataphract, I don't know where they got Dievdirby either though, it's a funky word.

Historical references are good, but you need to make sure they are common enough that the player base at large will understand the reference.

I had the same reaction.

Something I've used in certaun stories and games for mages who use word/rune-based magic is Scrivener. Instinctual or natural mages get called Weavers.

Martial artists are called Terpsichoreans.

I call my master of fisticuffs "pugilist" or "brawler".

Pugilist is another term for boxer though, not necessarily a martial artist.

You can call them whatever you want as long as they are pronounceable and the descriptions are clear enough.

Here are some of mine:

Did I mention that this game takes place on the internet? 'Cause that's kind of important.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
