@Pootscooter Sure, I basically have 12 of each:

Woods:
  • Bamboo → Bamboo
  • Beige Timber → Oak
  • Black Timber → Blackwood
  • Dark Timber → Ebony
  • Green Timber → Greenheart
  • Hard Timber → Lignum Vitae
  • Heavy Timber → Ironwood
  • Light Timber → Kiri or Paulownia (which name sounds better?)
  • Orange Timber → Osage Orange
  • Pink Timber → Pink Ivory
  • Purple Timber → Purpleheart
  • Red Timber → Bloodwood

Minerals: Gems in Italics
  • Coal
  • Obsidian
  • Amethyst
  • Emerald
  • Citrine
  • Diamond
  • Pearl
  • Peridot
  • Ruby
  • Sapphire
  • Topaz
  • Zircon
I also made a table of the physical properties of the metals in my games (I haven't done alloys yet):table.png
Density is in g/cm3, Hardness is Moh's scale, & Modulus is in GPa.
Compressive = Blunt
Shear = Slash
Tensile = Pierce

These numbers will be used to create a rating from 1-10 or maybe 1-5 for easy legibility.
Either that or I will use these numbers directly as a % reduction to Blunt/Slash/Pierce dmg.

E.g. Adamantite armor would give 53.9% reduction to Blunt damage (not actually gonna use that number, but just showing the concept, I will most likely multiply by a coefficient across the board).

I will probably use Mohs hardness to give Armor Pen on weapons.

Edit: I decide to swap Copper and Tin w/ each other on the list since I noticed Tin is way weaker than Copper. So Tin will basically be the starting noob armor. I guess this makes sense if you imagine it like wearing a giant tin can lol. Just goes to show you can't trust World of Warcraft for tier placement!

This video by Artifexian goes into metals/resources for world-building. It's quite an interesting watch!

I am also working on detailed scientific data on each of these materials, including color, hardness, strength (tensile/yield/shear etc), ductility, conductivity, density, magical affinity, atomic structure*, etc...
And i thought i was overthinking things xD You dont need to ask for help, you seem to have it all figured out....and then some :p

Haha, I'd rather overthink things than underthink it. It's like that saying: I'd rather have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it. If something ends up not being needed, simply leave it out of the game. I need to invest in a better notebook/pens/pencils/etc tho... This is getting chaotic lol.

Man, I still have to flesh out all the materials for Cloth, Leather, and Mail... I only just got Plate done yesterday.

I use notepad. And i also overthink things but im trying not to this time, i get burned out usually ^^ Always feel like i have to balance everything but tbh, the most fun games ive played are totally unbalanced or have hidden ways to break the game :p

I always found heavy armor easier to make/design/come up with since......well, it looks cooler usually so generates more interest from me :p

Yea I was using notepad up to a point, but now I have multipage word docs, powerpoints, and lots of excel sheets. >.>

I just ordered some graph paper cuz I need to work on making dungeons now. I went onto Bulbapedia and downloaded the images for all the pokemon dungeons and puzzles lol. Now I just gotta find such images for Golden Sun puzzles as well, for reference/inspiration of course.

I just realized I probably won't be able to flesh out my Leather armors until I come up w/ a bestiary for the beasts in my game since Leather armor will be made from their hides.

I guess I'll work on wood today lol...even tho that'll only be used for Bows & Arrows... Oh and staves, I can use wood there too.

@staf00 Where did you find all the technical data for the materials?

@Pootscooter I used Wikipedia lol.

Also, I made icons for my ores!:kaopride:

Edit: I've attached the icons I created in the screenshot, including ingots I made that aren't in the screenshot. Feel free to use them in any way you see fit. ^.^

Edit2:
However, I'd probably also cut out Titanium for scientific reasons. Titanium oxide, the main source of titanium, is very expensive and difficult to refine, and would require a much more detailed knowledge of chemistry than most fantasy worlds have (for more information, I found this lovely website on the process https://www.chemguide.co.uk/inorganic/extraction/titanium.html). Furthermore, titanium has a melting point of some 1600 C, which is hotter than inside some modern "hot blast furnaces" (invented in 1828, well outside of the range of most fantasy scopes, although perfectly reasonable for steampunk settings). As such, forging any kind of tool with titanium is largely unfeasible without access to post-Industrial Revolution technologies (although perhaps harnessing the power of dragons or some-such might allow for the processing of Titanium). The danger of using real materials in a fantasy setting is that they have predefined properties that are expected to be consistent between our reality and the reality presented to the player, and if the properties don't align, a cursory google search can leave some players disapointed.
I did some more in-depth research on the refinement process of Titanium and holy crap, your right. It's a total nightmare even by our modern standards lol. For those curious about the process:

So yea, I doubt a medieval/fantasy society would have the means, even with magic, to perform the Kroll process.

The current list of pure metals in my game are:
  • Tin
  • Copper
  • Iron
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Mithril
  • Orichalcum
  • Adamantite
Would such a list make sense in a fantasy setting? (referring to the IRL metals)
Alloys would be:
  • Bronze - Tin + Copper
  • Steel - Iron + Coal
  • Electrum - Gold + Silver
  • True Silver - Silver + Mithril
  • Rose Gold - Copper + Gold
  • Elementium - Mithril + Orichalcum + Adamantite
The recipes for smelting the alloys will call for various proportions as well, not simply a 1:1 ratio (except Electrum, which is 1:1)

This begs the question, what refinement process would the fantasy metals Mithril, Orichalcum, and Adamantite entail? Does anyone have any ideas?

PS: The player can simply buy the refined ingots from a vendor but at a ludicrously high price. Mithril, Orichalcum, and Adamantite aren't cheap ya know!

Lastly, what about the alloying process? Would that simply entail melting the constituent materials to their melting points and mixing them at the correct proportions?

So I've finalized the metals for crafting in my game. However, I'm somewhat drawing a blank when it comes to giving a unique property for Orichalcum.

For example, Mithril is as strong/tough as Steel, but is incredibly light and also has an affinity for magic. Thus a sword made of Mithril would also increase MAT & AGI a bit in addition to the usual ATK boost.

Adamantium, on the other hand, is like the polar opposite. It is extremely dense and therefore extremely hard/durable. A sword made of Adamantium would not only have insanely high ATK and also grant a bit of DEF, but the heaviness of the material would incur a small AGI penalty as well.

Which brings me to Orichalcum... Can anyone help me come up with potential properties for this metal? This is the current list of metals in my project:
  • Tin
  • Copper
  • Iron
  • Bronze
  • Steel
  • Mithril
  • Orichalcum
  • Adamantium
  • Elementium*
*end game content*

The metals up to Steel are all pretty plain in regards to stats/effects. I wanted Mithril and up to be more special and offer interesting properties. Elementium would be an alloy of Mithril, Orichalcum, & Adamantium.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
