20 years after the Barbarian Invasion was successfully ended, peace crept upon the land. Most of the cities razed, the few survivors were left to eke a out a living with an increasing number of monsters while taking up the Old Ways of Agriculture to earn their sustenance.  


In Farm Life 2040, you play Jack the Rancher on a quest to raise enough money to purchase some furnishings for your Spartan home. Your goal's are simple and the game short, but it's an amusing romp through the 6 Day World of Jack the Rancher!

This game was tossed together for MVLympics GamMak Event! I've spent the last 2 weeks adding some easter eggs and polish. I hope you enjoy it.

It could take you up to 14 minutes, depending on how slow you read.

So I downloading and I actually was enjoying it, and I like the idea. But on the 2nd day I went into the forest and got defeated by the slime (2nd enemy) and then it gave me an error "Failed to load: audio/audio/me/Defeat1.ogg" and kicked me from the game. After I tried again loading from waking up the 2nd day and tried to see if I could defeat the monsters the 2nd time but even throwing my hunting knife I was defeated by the slime and got the same error message.


I was sad I couldn't finish but here are a couple things i was enjoying:


Riding the Horse


Being told I was a savage every time I stepped on a flower


How well polished everything was


If you fixed this bug let me know and I'll be happy to finish!


By the way did you do all of it using just RPG Maker MV, or what plugins did you use? ( I am starting to use RPG maker for the first time and I am just trying to gather tips while I mess around.)

It's too hot today and my laptop is ridiculous and overheated during Day 2, so I'll continue when it's cooler but here's my views so far:


First up, AWESOME. I clicked the topic just to see what it was, expecting to overlook it but I love the concept.


I loved the flower stomping ahaha I am most definitely a savage!


I don't know if it was my laptop messing about, but the transition from day 1 to 2 wasn't very obvious. I did the whole sleep and save and was like "huh, did this do anything?" and it wasn't until I went outside I realised I had transitioned to day 2. Is this my laptop just messing with my head? If not, I'd suggest some kind of transition effect just to make it obvious.


I dunno if I was just being stupid but I didn't realise the hunting knife was a consumable (probably me being stupid) and I thought I was almost definitely going to die to the second monster. Maybe they're meant to be that strong, as I saw what the char said after what I'm assuming is the last fight of day 2 (laptop overheated before I could get back to the farm).


Also when I rode the horse into the forest the horse disappeared? Was this meant to happen? I was hoping to ride the horse through the forest haha


Basically, I love the concept, and there's a lot of great features. Let me know whether my issues were my laptop messing about (I'll try it on my desktop later today when it cools down a bit). I'm looking forward to playing the rest of it! Great work, buddy

EDIT:


Hid my original post behind a spoiler so it wasn't a massive wall of text.


Finally managed to play the game without my laptop overheating. My previous thing about the transition not being obvious was my laptop being a poopbrain and it didn't play the sound effect first time haha.


I LOVED the scene when leaving the forest, omg, I did not expect that haha! I was getting so panicked.


And the harvest minigame I am proud to say I managed to get them all


All in all, I really enjoyed it. Short, well done, and amusing story. I didn't think it was immediately clear what to do on the "middle" days but it became obvious as soon as I entered the area.


A+, will harvest again

Oh no! Thanks for the heads up and thanks for playing my game! I read your original post the other day and I got on to reply to it today, since I have very spotty internet. I fixed the issue with the missing sound file. Not sure what happened there. I am glad to hear you enjoyed the game. Did you manage to crush? There's a little something for the super savages out there, lol.


I am really glad to hear you enjoyed. It was fun making it, I got the idea from the Insanity Jam Game Idea Generator, and besides the bug hunting and a little bit of polish I made it in about a week!


As for your question, I only used Hime_Pretitle Events to make the animated title screen. Other than that it was all RMMV engine.

Also, nice work on the harvest. I was wondering if that was enough time for the whole event, but I didn't want it too easy.


It is taking waaay longer than expected to get this new file uploaded. I am on a tethered internet connection through a cellphone...

Downloaded and tried it out. I also died to the Slime the first time, before I tried using the Hunting Knife. I like that I needed to use my items instead of just saving them, like I do in most games. A hint would have been nice, though.


I think fading the screen to black each time you sleep in the bed would be helpful. I was confused about why nothing happened when I went to sleep.


When the newspaper popped up, I wanted to spend more time reading it, but it disappeared! Making it advance with a key press would be nice.


Oh, and I like the way you did the credits!

Cool! Thanks for playing my game, FridgeCrisis, and thank you for your input. I have been wracking my brain trying to think of a way to hint at the knife without being too        obvious or obscure. And I am not sure why the screen isn't fading but I will fix it.
