Thanks for the compliments guys! I personally don't care if I'll win this or not, as I said I just partecipated for fun and because I loved the contest, I'm aware that there are an huge amount of mappers better than me (Luchino, Candacis, thatbennyguy, Shingamix, zachfoss, ecc...)

Also some other maps are more original (like mlogan's one) or they have far better atmosphere than mine (like Dark_Metamorphosis one).

I'm glad that someone liked my work however! Honestly I haven't put much effort in that map, as I said to Dark_Metamorphosis it was done in less than 15 minutes, and yes...it's 100% tileset mapping (with some events) because I'm not a parallaxer.

I just wanted to show for the skeptical that you can manage to create a nice (or at least decent) map even without parallax (like Luchino does with her games).

This doesn't mean I hate it, quite the opposite in fact! I love parallax mapping! It's gorgeous!

Yup My map isn't going to any of my game that I been working! so is isn't very nice.
Why not? I think your map looks great! Just because it hasn't got that many votes?

My map hasn't got that many votes either, but I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out based on my mapping skills. The map I posted here is part of an area that I will use in my game (even though It's not fully done yet). I knew when I posted, that I wouldn't have the slightest chance to win by votes since there are so many talented mappers here with years of experience. But you have to start somewhere right?, and as long as you are happy with the map and you keep polishing it, then I think It's all good.

Just wanted to say that: even though your map isn't my favourite, I think it looks nice and that you should definetely use it in one of your games, as long as it fits in there :)

I know my maps will.

Where the heck did it say "playablity" in the map contest? I didn't know I needed to leave room to walk around on it? I thought it was a portrait of a map type view? If I knew that I would have made a demo for it.

AFAIK, it didn't...

this is just my opinion

but then again, IMHO at least you need to make sure that the characters can walk thru since it is a farm... how would you work on a farm if you have no space to move on? I think it is actually an integral part of a farm map, unless you focused the map on just the "field" part.
PS: It's not really playability, since you're not meant to play it anyways.

I agree with Engr. I think since this is a farm then function-ability is inherent in design. The more cluttered a farm is the less efficient it is. That certainly doesn't mean the map "looks" bad or is aesthetically displeasing, just that (in my opinion) it detracts from the concept of a farm map.

Anyway, I think playability is not the correct term since it's not an RPG Maker playable map contest. It's more of a matter of "can your character actually move in it and do farm chores"? And by move, I mean any movement size and it's not restricted to the 32x32 grid (if we do that then it becomes a matter of playability using the default engine)

PS: and just to clarify, it is not a rule. We have our own judging methods on whom to vote, it's that simple.

Actually, I just looked at PinkPeach's one and I think it's very well spaced out. It has its own unique sense of mapping. I may have voted for it had I seen it sooner.

One of my votes was down to her and Zachfoss. Zachfoss won out though because of the sunflowers. They are my favorite flower and I love driving by the fields in bloom in the summer.

I've seen quite some nice maps.

Especially some of the parallax maps stand out and look very pleasing.

That said I like the ones from EyesUnclouded and VoxPopuli the most.

The different take on a farm theme and their simplicity just stood out, just the composition in general.

All of the maps were crazy amazing and it was way too difficult to only choose two. I was so close to actually just nulling my vote, as I really couldn't make up my mind. In the end I did though and picked Candacis and mlogan.

Yay, two votes so far, better than nothing :p Admittedly though, I didn't go with a "farm" map in general sense. It is more like a camp site where the camper does some farming as a side activity and there are so many impressive maps. Good job everyone~

More themed mapping contests please!

Wow, there are a lot of contestants here and great maps as well! In a situation like this, when a lot of the maps are good in general, it feels like the map's atmosphere becomes very important. Tough to vote, it was.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
