@ShinGamix & VoxPopuli Personally, I think your overlays are overshadowing the greatness of your map. I prefer the versions without the overlays for both of your submissions. I'm not sure if others feel the same, but the overlays clutter the map. Perhaps if you made it a much lighter opacity, then it would be a more subtle effect?

@ thatbennyguy, thank you for your insight,  As someone just starting out this is the kind of valuable feedback I need.  Your comment touches upon user experience and artistic expression, in addition to the technical construct within the app.  Later today, when I (hopefully) will have some time -- or tomorrow -- I will work on adjusting opacity and filter design ( ... I'd like to try to keep a little filtering to convey psychological / emotional mood: the fog of time and fading memories of the ojiisan, the sepia-monochromatic sadness of his once fertile and beautiful farm now falling into ruin, etc.  ...)  I'll try a few things.  Thanks again!

I was inspired by Dwarf Fortress and Rune Factory.

Since I edited a lot of colors, here's a sample of Célianna original work that I used.

The well and the mineral are from the rtp.

But yeah I agree with you, those contest entries has way more effort than in my, but then again I didn't exactly plan to win either.
