Do you have a favorite game you made or someone from the community (here) created?

I have been looking for a list like that but I did not find it.

I would like to keep in mind what Shaz (Keeper of the Nuts) once said:

I have no doubt there would be games out there that, although complete,
would NOT be good to learn from.

So this means it is a "finished/good to learn from" list. :)

Thank you so much for your help and have a nice day!

---

If this is possible here, I would like to thank Shaz for her repeated efforts here and her
help regarding the setup for changing the save file location.
Had to look up a little bit of ruby but it worked really well.

---

I created a game as TwoSoulFox on Itch and translated it in four languages.
Feel free to take a look at the page if you're interested.

Oh, I am sorry. I did not see it.
Thanks for the info.

Btw, your music is awesome.

Is "Big Bad Wolf" (by Little Red) a finished game or is it more of a demo?

The problem might be in the "someone from here" created part for me. I don't generally partake of the games posted to these forums. Most of what I've played has been "share ware" to some degree or bought through places like Steam.

For sure, I know that one of the users of these forums created "You Are Not The Hero". I didn't play it because I'm not a fan of mini-games, but I thought it was executed very well, I enjoyed the storyline, and it got a couple laughs out of me as well (thankfully I could YouTube a good amount of the game at the time it was new, so I got to enjoy it).

If you're just looking for "great games you've played in RPG Maker", I can add 1 more to the list.

"Final Fantasy: Endless Nova" is probably still one of my favorites. It's a fan game for Final Fantasy wherein the only things it shares with the series are like spell names, monsters, and summons. But, I enjoyed the gameplay quite a lot, the story was pretty interesting, and it was well put together. Especially for an RPG Maker 2000 game.

Not even sure that helps you out at all. Most games I've touched are "average" or "slightly above average" in terms of quality. At least, to my particular opinion. I've no desire to dissect them to "prove" their quality (mostly because I don't care enough). I'd suggest just grabbing a couple of the games from here. Grab one from Page 1, grab another from Page 5, and a third from Page 10. You might end up pleasantly surprised by a few.

There's no shortage of "competent" games on these forums and interesting things done in them. Finding "great" games is just as tricky here as it would be on Steam with AAA games.

Not to stir up trouble or anythin', but I do believe the OP said "Favorite", which is very different from great or even good.
But, as for me, I have a longggg list of stuff, but to narrow it down, Wind Ryder, any of BobbyLily's games, Pixel Pixie, *cough*DimeADozenandIheardtheguywhomadeitisreallycool*
Yeah, I would agree with Tai. Just kinda choose stuff that looks interesting on the completed game's forums.

Can confirm, Tridium has excellent taste in games and been a great helper play testing many RPG Maker games on here. So I defer to him, he knows what he is talking about with his library of games to compare against.

(Also I'm not at all bias, not even a little bit, no sir, not at all).

Thanks Tridium. I will check things out.

Yes, I said favorite but also good in... like... has potential.

You usually see passion. No, there is no perfect project. ^^

I'll put mine on the completed list, too.

The games that I support in my signature. Some are not completed yet though.

As for other rm games. I will only list the Completed and "FREE" Games down below.

Weird and Unfortunate Things Are Happening
I particularly enjoyed this one. It's free and on Steam. There's almost nothing wrong with it.

Umbral Soul. Has some atrocious mapping and it's a mess in terms of resources used (too many different styles, it's inconsistent), but the writing is very good and so is the gameplay.

Subterranean Starfield. Dungeon Crawler in Etrian's Odyssey's style. Not for everyone due to the hardcore and retro nature of it. Sadly it's laggy as hell and almost unplayable on Windows 10\11. It was difficult and unforgiving, but also fun back in the day.

Silver Town. Has some mapping issues but has hilarious 4th wall breaking dialogue and it's kinda original and fun to play. I also appear in the game as a cameo.

I also liked Yume Nikki. It's a royal pain to play but the surreal atmosphere and the amount of creativity put into it are amazing.

---

Commercial wise there's a lot of stuff, from Pocket Mirror - GoldenerTraum to Omori or FreeBird Games (To the Moon, Finding Paradise, etc).

There's also @Kes games, they're actually all pretty decent and get the job done.

That's how it works? Ok.

Some really special titles it seems. Yes, I remember Etrian... and how Persona did the same.
It is a special kind of pain. ^^

It doesn't exactly works like that but if you want, I'm sure other developers would appreciate it.

Ha! I'm in at least 2, maybe 3 games.
:MV3:
(which is really weird, considering I haven't been around here for that long)

Bwahahaha, my only complaint is the "Not", it should be "Hot Suspiciously Hooded Man"

I stand corrected. I just assumed they also meant "good" or even "great". Personal internal bias showing. I can't think a game is "my favorite" without it also being "great".

Yes, I understand that position.

Interestingy enough, some people say: "You cannot make a 'good' game with RPG Maker".

I think personally, that it is nonsense. What matters is the game, not the engine.

Many players and devs fail to see that it is but a starting point. The creator/team matters.

Despite all the bashing there were two nice people I would like to cite:

Yes anyone can make a game with this software, but it takes just as much time and effort as if you were to make a game on Unity or CryEngine. - Kio Kurashi

You're not going to be more likely to sell something just because of the program it's created in.
Two games with identical quality are not going to sell any differently because of the editor they are made in. - Hatsukuro

So while this is a place to list the ones you like and/or regard as fine,
I would like to add something for the younger generation:

If you are a creator or maker... do not take all the critics/insults at a face value.
Most people do not know how good games are made or what's important.

I would even go as far as to say:
No matter what kind of maker you have installed (RPG Maker MZ, RPG Maker MV, RPG Maker VX Ace, RPG Maker VX), you can create a good and unique game.

Most people want 3D and are looking for some kind of future tech but some games are awesome and look like CrossCode.

Found an article on "thegamer.com" called "The Best RPG Maker Games".

It was also mentioning Yume Nikki.

One thing I was searching a lot for but did not find on my own was "Skyborn" (no e).
I think I read some things about it quite a while back but did not write down the name.

Quick reminder: Never use Tales or Pokemon art. Use things you own/have the license.

I think even if you do not have the burden of a company, you should create your own thing.

Back to the original question: my favourite RPG Maker game is Legends of an Otherworld. It's a long game with a battle system largely inspired by FF10, and the main focus is the boss battles, which are very challenging in a way that is almost like a puzzle to find ways to defeat them within the system. Then when you're finished, you can challenge yourself to do a low-level game, and find that the game presents an entirely new set of even more difficult puzzles!

I am sorry, what do you mean with "low-level game". A difficulty?
Can you elaborate?

As far as I am aware, being sick meant that a "little bit" of time has passed.

One last thing I remembered are the typical "best of" videos you find on YT.
Not everyone is aware of the engine though which means that the you will get served a mix, of course.

Don't know the video titles or channels for it but I might find something after some research.
Some people think they control the algorithm when the create any video idea that starts with "Top 10...". It is the bee's knees. I rather watch stuff I like though.

Checking out "Skyborn" and "OneShot". Still recovering though.
