Does Star Ocean 2 count? It was made by Enix, but long before they merged with Square. SO2 won me over with its truly amazing combat and skill/crafting systems - it had (for its time) an interesting plot and good visuals, but more than anything else it really felt like a game from an era where gameplay came first and there was always something cool to do around every corner.

If the eventual Squeenix merger disqualifies Star Ocean 2, then Tales of Graces is my second-favorite RPG of all time, for its lovable characters ("M. Caesar" anyone?) and wonderful action-packed battles. Persona 4, Persona 3, Tales of Symphonia, Dark Cloud 2, and Azure Dreams all have a really fond place in my heart, as well.

I know I've played some JRPGs, but, honestly, I can't remember most of them over the years. The only one that I saw people mention that jumped out at me was Ys. Which we played a ton in college on one of my roommates Sega. The day we finished finally finished the game was a big deal. (Like 15 people watching someone do the final battle.) But that was around '94, so I can't even remember which specific title it was. Just that we spent months watching each other play that game into the wee hours of the night.

I would point out that the video is not just from Square, it specifies from Square-Enix, which means the Enix part too. So that removes Star Ocean and Dragon Quest.

I would say the Persona series for myself personally.

I wonder nobody mentions Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii/3DS).
It is such an amazing game with wonderful gameplay (even you have to accustom to the battle-system at the beginning, but you become fit in it very quickly) and beautiful soundtrack. Characters and Story-telling are just awesome, you want to know how it ends.

I know I repeated the game a few times, but that shows how fascinated I'm on this game :)

Hmm JRPG probably Xenoblade Crhonicles for the wii, I really feel a family fuzzy feeling in there, but by RPG I definetly go with Fire Emblem Path of Radiance, best FE in my opinion, I love the story and the characters also the dificulty is not as bull**** as Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn but it's still pretty hard

Considering that Square uh has mostly Rpgs I hate this is easy. Ephemeral fantasia's got a be tha one that stands out ta me. People only hated it cuzz they said it was difficult an tedious but it didnt seem that way ta me so may be my experience was different or I got lucky yo. Ta me its one a tha greatest things I ever played.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
