I really liked Magna Carta Tears of Blood, published by Atlus.

Lunar (Sega CD) for me,.

I really enjoyed Lufia (the original) when I was a kid, too, but I haven't played that since then.. maybe I'd feel different now.

Tales of Legendia (Mainly because that OST was superb)
They had the damn Japanese Philharmonic Orchestra record. LOL. Can't say much about the plot, but man... That sends the good type of Shivers down my spine.

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of A New World was a fun time, but that was because I never played the original so I had nothing to compare it to. =P
The 2nd post in this entire thread mentioned Dragon's Dogma...

YOU HAVE NO CLUE HOW MUCH TIME I SPENT ON THAT. I loved it way more than Skyrim, which iirc, was exponentially gaining more popularity. Made me a bit upset since the combat in Dragon's Dogma was SOOOOOO satisfying. Well, for me it was.

The Last Story for the Wii was a fun time and so was Pandora's Tower, I still need to finished Xenoblade Chronicles. My friend mentioned I was actually close to finishing, but, I was getting whooped hard by a boss and I didn't quest enough to get levels. It's just a personal problem >.<

Golden Sun for sure (the first two GBA games, anyway, not so much Dark Dawn). Not perfect, but I have a lot of love for those two. Big fan of Fire Emblem (again, mostly the GBA games) too. Radiant Historia on DS was great, and I've always had a little bit of a soft spot for the Megaman Battle Network games, they made random battles very engaging. Oh, and the early Mario and Luigi games.

Pretty much all handheld, there, apparently!

Does Rune Factory 4 count? It is half farming sim half action jrpg. It's one of my faves of all time.

Pokemon Black/White

I always thought Pokemon wouldn't be able to put an interesting story (not that it matters because it's Pokemon) but Black/White made a very good work in this aspect.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
