Gonna go ahead and open this up so we can start thinking forward! Feel free to continue to post in the January thread for the next few days!

I'm carrying over a couple of my goals from February and adding to my list.

  • Game mechanics - get scripts and design first 10 levels
  • Other - complete 10-level demo (really not quite as daunting as it sounds with the first 2 goals met)
  • Create project development thread
  • Customize main menu
  • Create 12 new tiles for tileset
  • More clearly define a bit of a backstory

I think that's more than enough. Hopefully having a week off this month will help spur progress on.

I'll be posting my final update in January soon. It's been a rather hectic month for me so I wasn't able to make consistent updates, or get everything I wanted done for that matter. And now I feel as I will likely be taking the rest of January off to recover from illness. It's not really letting up so, aaaaack.

February will likely be a busy month again for me but I think I'd like to

  • Continue work on a music project. I have several drafts done and I'd like to orchestrate at least three of them this month.
  • Finish my face set editing tutorial. I fell behind on this again and I'd like to fully complete it so people can start getting the most out of it.
That's it. That's all. I'd like to do a little here and there as RM "me time" such as more mapping tutorials and work on some art assets, but I'd call those secondary goals at the moment that I can't guarantee I'll find the time for.

Count me in.

Two large areas to map

Plan out in detail exactly how I'm going to bring my two parties together

Plan out a major plot moment

Work out the choreography of several cut scenes

And then, if there's time, start the eventing that all the above is going to need.  But February is a busy time for me, so I'm not committing myself to that.  Maybe put the eventing down as a dream, rather than as a goal.

I'm in.  I plan... to have a playable demo of my game for about 10 minutes' worth of gameplay by the end of February. I plan on working at a feverish pace to have a lot more than that set up, though. Work on Lantern has become a breakneck pace. I've fallen behind and I HAVE to power through so I don't sink.

Goals:

- Set up on-map battles throughout the game

- Modify some enemies/encounters and move them to Western part of map (I think I have too many in one area compared to some others)

- Plan item/weapon/armour placements

- Sort out battle balancing

- Add in shops

- Place said weapons/armours/etc

- Remap a couple of areas

- Revise the story slightly, focusing on char dev.

March will be testing, polish and music, most likely. We'll see!

I got more done than I thought I would for January, so for February, I'm going to aim for one of the following four:

1) Play many RM games instead (since we have that community event).

2) Finish Chapter 4 of the game. I'm close as of now, so the finish might even happen this weekend if I get the last couple of maps drawn up tomorrow.

3) Make a playable demo of my game again. However, the final facesets will not arrive until early March so it would still have a few facesets off. Still might as I think some people might not mind that too much. I just need to unsequence break chapter 1, and do some touch ups on the Elmwood Maps for that to happen.

4) Work on my side project for the release a game in 2015 challenge for a month instead.

Knowing the way I operate, I'll probably do option 5, some combination of the following.

I fell behind on Januarys goals, but not by much. So I'm going to roll them over to this month and add a couple more.

- complete day 1 of Flight of the Eagle

- release it as a demo

- review at least 5 games for the community event

Well, seems I have met all my January goals and even released a demo (something I was planning to do in February), so looks like I need some new goals. Lol.

- Complete act 2 of the game and send the updated demo to my special playtesters.

- Review more RM games for the Let's Review Games event. Need those french toasts. :p

- Do something for the next ReStaff release.

Was hoping to have my demo finished last month but I just became to busy to do so. It's in a pretty polished state so it should hopefully not be too long now.

Goals:

- Finish the sprites for two characters.

- Introduce more variation in enemy type and stats.

- Finalize events and dialogue.

- Have it playtested and fix any bugs balancing issues.

- Release the demo.

I also plan to create a development thread for my second project at some point.

It's beginning to sound like I'm going to have to leave my hibernation blanket cave in February, so hopefully making some goals will help me focus on something in my free time.

  • Finish writing out my game's story.  I did start working on it, but a lot of it is "~and something happens~" right now.
  • Map out the main areas.
  • Make something for ReStaff.
It seems pretty doable, but if I can't complete them I'll just blame it on February only being 28 days.  :p

February progress!

So I fixed some bugs with the target system of my battle system... Also added "aftermath" which shows items, gold and current %exp for the actors. Gonna need a few more finishing touches then I guess I could say that the core is finally complete...

that sequencer is really awesome...

Additional progress?

- Revisiting my documents for the project idea I have in mind and doing some changes to the planned features. Thinking of removing equipments from the game and focus the character building on the skill/attribute system. Without equipments, it would be easier for players to make a kind of a "multi-class" character. And it also makes sense in the settings of the game.

Agree. Get rid completely the equipment. And switch them to optional accessories which give you bonus(es) is a good choice. And it's EASIER to balance. Like I did in my game. Also, focusing on the skill attribute system sounds good. I like customization

----

Not a progress... Just add a little stuff

Because the cursor was soo boring, I added afterimage effect and it looks better

yeah, and I can't think of a reason on why an island with only a few small villages and a lot of natural environment would have a multitude of weapons lying around randomly... Plus if I put weapons, battle skills will then be tied to a specific weapon type, meaning if someone wants to "multi-class", then he needs to have different weapons too. Then I'd need to make it changeable while in battle so that they can change approaches mid-battle else "multi-classing" wouldn't make much sense.

And also because if I don't remove weapons, given the amount of other data I need to make for the game's set-up, I might not be able to finish it. I'd rather just focus on the parts of the game that are slightly unique to it or at least isn't used in a lot RPGs.

On a side note, I like the fade effect...

In comparison to the awesomeness of other people's customization, this will seem the merest trifle, but I'm very pleased with it.

In my last game I had a thing at the end which gave the total enemy defeats inflicted by each character, and players seemed to like it.  However, what I really wanted was

- to be able to distinguish between physical defeats and magic defeats

- to have a running total in the status screen, rather than just a final summary.

I've now got it!  And it fits quite neatly, imo, on Yanfly's Status Menu screen.  Here is a screenie.  Ignore the face, it's a placeholder.

EDIT

Amended so that the figures are in the same colour as all the other figures on this screen.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
