My goals for Feburary:

  • Finish the second dungeon in Wrath of Pyro
  • Break the text loops
  • Try to include some programming (or get some programmers)
  • Include a functional intro
I really hope I get these done by the end of the month.

@Theo - That is so amazing! Are you going to release the in-game editor? It would be so useful!

@Engr - A game without equipment sounds really interesting! I will be curious to see how this develops.

@ksjp - I think it looks really nice and I like the touch of distinguishing between types of defeats. It seems like it could be really useful when you have to choose which players to use in a party to find a good balance.

@MrDj - Welcome! Glad to see you join us here!

The motivation was because I hate editing script > hit save > open database > battle test. At first, I made this only for debug, though, I ended up make it as an in game sequencer. Lol, yeah I hope people will be able to understand how the action sequence works, so yes, hopefully it will be public.

no progress as of now as I was on a 12pm-12am shift yesterday then 8am-4pm shift today, aside from very minor plans. I hope I could make nice progress later today. :)

PS: @Theo - btw, is that specific to your SBS or it can be used even for the normal battle system?

Yes, the UI is made exclusively for my SBS,

Also, what do you mean by "Normal Battle System" anyway? Default frontview?

If it's the case, what's your in game editor expectation then? Do they really need to have in game editor? I dont think they need :3

Well, I was thinking about that... Aside from maybe editing some effects or something, none...

My first post in the Goals & Progress Thread. I hope it isn't too short for a first:

  • Work on characters and dialogue for Survival Horror Project.
  • Finalize a complete plot for my side fantasy game project.
  • Write an organized, inconsistent plot for my Survival Horror Project.
  • Improve writing skills and write more stories.
  • Expand vocabulary.
  • Decide between choosing the Survival Horror Project or the Side Fantasy Project as the main paradigm of work this month. Very difficult decision, as I continue to jump ships between projects each day.
  • Create maps for Side Fantasy Project.
  • Improve mapping in XP and VX Ace.
  • Find out what shift-mapping is.
  • Use more scripts in my projects or at all. (Scripts Currently/Scripts Used Ever: 1)
  • Release a game in 2015.
The hardest part may be choosing which game to work on, since they both continue to draw my interest each day. I also hope to write a organized story or even a draft so I can have a platform to build from and continue my first game with ease. I also hope to improve my writing skills and write more this month. The outlook may be positive this year! :D

@mlogan; @TheoAllen: Thanks for the welcome! I'll be sure to continue sharing my progress in the future!

Welcome Tornado! The great thing about this thread is that there are no rules - you can post as much or as little as you want.  Good luck!

Welcome Tornado! It's the best place to promote your own works and sharing your progress.

In game animation editor? it would be awesome if it's any. You know, the animation position is restricted to 272 (X Axis) and 207 (Y Axis) in animation editor. It would be troublesome if anyone wants to use Hi-res in RPG Maker and try to play animation on screen.

However, since I'm not really interested in hi-res, dont expect me to do that XD

My goal this month is to work at least 15 minutes every work day on a pack or M+ stuff. It's not exactly ambitious or even focused but it is realistic. My attitude has been "all or nothing" lately and all that does is get me a lot of nothing. Gotta accept that a little bit of progress may not be as much as I think is necessary but it's still progress and it's still good.

Goals:

- Set up on-map battles throughout the game

- Modify some enemies/encounters and move them to Western part of map (I think I have too many in one area compared to some others)

- Plan item/weapon/armour placements

- Sort out battle balancing

- Add in shops

- Place said weapons/armours/etc

- Remap a couple of areas

- Revise the story slightly, focusing on char dev.

March will be testing, polish and music, most likely. We'll see!
Update due to loss of 20 maps (long story):

[completed monster/enemy allocation, remapped 2 areas]

- Redo at least 10 of the maps (too burnt out from mapping to do all 20 now!)

- Create concepts for additional non-battle-thingies to do, eg farming/mining (might expand on in a future game) that players can do to earn extra money, to make items from, or to do something a bit different

- Revise the story

If I put everything into a test map, I might be able to do battle balancing without relying on the maps, but I won't be able to place armour/etc until that is done, so it's a bit of a weird situation. Might be able to get around it with mock-up chests for each area or something like that, then those things can just be copypasted into their respective area(s).

@Hotfirelegend: How about an auto-run event, to give your characters the items they should have at that point, then switch it off? That's how I've done it in my game when I want to test a chapter but have no saves near the chapter start and don't want to restart the game?

2.1 Update: Redid three skill sets, though most of this redo is moving spells around into better spots, and deleting or redesigning the spells I was finding useless under playtesting so far. One magic skill set left to do, then it is mainly balance them and spellcheck them...and redo all the class skills too.

For those unfamiliar with my game, in my game world, everyone has a magic element (one of 8), but they also train in a class too. This means everyone has magic skills and class skills available to use.

Hmm, for February, I think I should be able to accomplish:

  • Finish up the 3rd major section.
  • Plan out the new dialog in between section 3 and 4.
  • Decide whether or not to re-map the lower level of section 4.
  • Start thinking about the ending of the game.

Yeah, the thing is I'll want to be able to test it all as I go along so what I'm thinking of doing to 'emulate' a typical player experience is to write down where possible items can come from, get some enemies in, go against them with base items, then go to the shops and choose what I'd want to buy (from what would be available at that point in time), adjust prices as needed, etc. Then if I need to leave and come back or test later bits, I'd have a vague idea of what the player should have by that expected point in the game.

Is it already February? Anyway, my goals for February (which includes March 1-3 to make it 31 days).

Dragon Kingdoms Remake: January just didn't happen for this. I've dropped all side projects for the time being, so I can get this started again. I want to get at least the first town done, and maybe the surroundings can be March or something? Dunno.

Dragon Kingdoms VI: I want to get into Chapter 1. Should be easier as this one is more interesting I guess?

Dawn of a New Era comic: Might give it the month off or do it during down times. However, February is only 28 days...

November/December and now January have passed for the projects.

Best bet is Feb. 2-8 and Feb. 23-Mar. 1 and Mar. 2 & 3. Groundhog's Day and Daytona races shouldn't really impact development. Worst is Feb. 1 (Super Bowl) and so-so is Feb. 9-15 and 16-22 (Valentine's and President's Day)

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
