Feels like a simple (and possibly dumb) question, but how can I make an event face left and stop?

Hey everyone.

This is likely a ridiculous question, and I apologize for even having to ask it.
Maybe I've been at it too long, but this feels like it should have a simple fix.

I have an NPC who I want to face the player. The NPC walks 2 steps to the right, then faces left, toward the player.
I'm using the old man in People4.png that came with RPG Maker MV.

The problem is, even though he's stopped, he's still mid-step.
I have tried turning on and off walking animation / stepping animation / direction fix in all sorts of combinations that make sense to me, but none of them result in the old man just standing and facing left.

I solved this by creating a copy of People4.png and erasing the walking animation, and replacing it with the standing animation. That worked, but it seems wasteful to have to include a whole other image just for this one brief cut scene... especially when the image I want is already included!

Anyway, can someone please tell me how I can force it to use the standing still image?

Here's the event movement where I tell it to do the thing, minus all my failed attempts at adding direction fixes and walking animation tweaks and what not.

Thank you for your time.

What's the "start image" of your event? If it's not the middle/resting one, it'll end up on one of the walking animations.

Thanks for your reply.

Just to clarify, this is what I end up with using the Movement Route I posted above.

So for some reason, in response to your comment, I can't choose a starting image - it just highlights that entire area (all 12 sprites of that particular character).

The NPC is an event by itself, right? In that event, you click on the image and it let's you select which character and then which starting pose.

This is actually for use in a cut scene.
The tile is invisible (not assigned a graphic), then if the player steps on it the cut scene is triggered. During the cut scene, the event graphic is changed to an npc actor graphic. However, I can’t choose a starting pose because when using “change image” from the movement route menu, rpg maker auto detects the actor (all 12 poses are highlighted as one, rendering me unable to select one pose on its own).

If I set the graphic in the event itself (as opposed to setting the graphic using change image under movement route), it does let me choose a starting pose, but then the npc would be visible and I didn’t want that.

Two page event without an image on first page, then a self switch (A) on when player steps on it. Page two has the condition of self switch A being on with the actor graphic in the correct starting pose. No need to change graphics in the movement route menu unless you want something to move and then change. If that really is what you're doing, then move route, then outside of movement route have it change to the next page, then move route again (or whatever). Don't use the change graphic command inside the movement route is what I'm saying.

This works!
Thank you!

It’s a little more complex nternally than I would’ve hoped, but a better alternative than adding a separate sprite sheet just for this thing.

Honestly this seems like an rpg Maker bug.

There is a script call in Ace for selecting the precise cell you want so that you don't have to faff around. I would be surprised if it doesn't also exist in MV. Perhaps ask in the thread Script Call List?

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
