Hi, I am unsure if this new release is capable of opening old projects (stand alone release), does this release also come with changes like a better importer function, commands?

There have been some updates compared to the old japanese release of RM2K3.

It should also be able to open all legal old projects - but if you talk about projects done with a pirated version, that will depend on what cracks and patches have been applied to the illegal version.

There is a special patch EULA to make some of those illegal patches available for the new, legal version of the engine - but not all patches will be usable, and using patches will void support.

However, somewhere it was stated (I don't remember where) that if you have problems opening old project after purchasing a legal version of the engine (and not patching the legal version), you can contact Degica for help with that.

It's only troublesome if you pirated the software and now try to get a project from the pirated version to become legal.

If you start it new, then there are no problems.

It will work without problems to open old projects from the pirated version. (In fact, old projects from the official Japenese versions will create problems!) It will offer you to upgrade your engine and it will show you what changes there are. It will also warn you about the different RTP. There are basically two major things you have to consider:

- If you use any patches, they will be removed, because the engine is upgraded.

- Since the official version uses a different RTP than the pirated version, references to RTP files might broken because the filenames differ. So, make sure you import/copy all the files from the old RTP which you use into your project, or change the references in your game to the corresponding files of the new RTP.

So your saying the steam release actually acknowledges the pirate version and offers to upgrade it? Whoa thats something different!

Well, I guess more people will buy it if they know they can upgrade existing projects, so it makes sense. (That's also the reason for the patch EULA.)

I mean, Degica doesn't approve the situation that thousands of people use(d) pirated versions, but let's make the best out of it, kinda.

And when you release a legit version, loads of those people ditch the pirated version for the new one. If they couldn't convert their project they'd not use the new one.

So this actually quite a nice way to get more sales ;)
