Request

I would like to request a script along the lines of Final Fantasy 7's Morph command. A stand alone script would be great, but directing me how to tweak a similar script to meet the requirements would be helpful, too.

Here are the basics of the skill:

  • Morph targets one enemy, causing a fraction of your standard physical damage
  • If damage is a deathblow, the enemy morphs into an item (different than the spoils item...usually something more valuable)
  • Bonus: The enemy does not drop money or spoils
Rationale

Reading through the project development forum, I've found many people who agree (myself included) that a standard steal command is not logical. How is it that one can only obtain an item through stealing, but not through defeating an enemy?

I believe a good solution to this is making a spell like FF7 Morph. This will appease the treasure hunter in all of us, and give us a good explanation of how these unique items come about separately from standard spoils.

Thanks for any help.

What do you mean by "only"?
Enemies can drop items upon defeating them. Those will be added to your inventory after the battle...

Morph is just another way to add items to the player's inventory.

I remember seeing a script like this somewhere a long time ago... But I have no idea where, sorry. :(

Try using this https://mrtrivelvx.wordpress.com/2014/10/03/conditional-drops/

That script allows to add an extra drop to enemies, which is conditional.

You could make make your Morph skill to have a specific element and enemies would drop/have chance at dropping the item if it was killed that specific element.

What I mean is, games that use the "steal" command offer unique items to be stolen that are not normally dropped by the enemy. It doesn't make sense that you can only obtain the item through stealing and not through drops. Using a "morph" command gives a bit more logic to the scenario...using the enemy's essence to transform into something rare.

I searched and couldn't find any scripts that match this.

There's a few of that script out there in a few languages, try not to search "morph" but use key words such as "turn enemy into item".

If i remember correctly, there's one in this forum named after "cook skill" by Fomar. They all do the same stuff you want, use the skill, enemy turns into item X,  by success rate% X.

A simple google search pops a few up, and the "Cook Skill" is there. http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/2327-cook-skill/

RMMV
Why not just create the skill morph with current damage formula. Set a common event to active when enemy dies from the morph skill damage and provide the "morph drop"
That's what I'm going to be doing for mine.

Nice zombie raise.

Anyways, I think what he would need to use is a conditional drop script or something. Would overall give more flexibility to the combat system and loots.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
