Hi there, here is another crazy script request, from your truly....

Ok i got this rather questionable idea in my head, which could have a lot of utility.

So this script would use notetags on skills, items, etc. First delete files in, lets say the battler folder and replace it with another file from a folder dedicated to this script. And RENAMES it to be the same as the original file.

Why need this? Well this would make it easy to have a game where the playable characters can have many different sets of clothing, which would affect their sprite, faces sets, busts, and battlers(animated ones)

Now changing faces and sprites is easy, changing bust sets, and animated battler sheets is not, this also means that if you have a scene constructed with only bust set A in mind, you can have different clothes on and it would ruin immersion.

SO with this script it would replace all currently used files and this way all scenes will use the currently equipped looks!

Can this be done? can a script do this? I know it can move and even write external files, but can a script overwrite files that are currently accessed? and after refresh the data, so the game uses the proper images for all these things.

So again the script would delete, copy/paste files form a separate folder, rename them accordingly and flush the memory.

Can this be done? and if so anyone is willing to do this in form of a commission?

This approach is a bad way to change graphics.

If you want to just have an object point to a new graphic, just point to a new graphic directly instead of replacing the graphic itself.

Not to mention, if your data is encrypted, you can't even delete, move, or rename your data without reconstructing the archive, which I'm sure not many people would want to do (or are able to do)

Oh OK so the other way would be a script that changes notetags of other scripts, is that possible? or already exists?

If the script does not provide a way to change the graphics, then you should request such functionality to be added.

The author likely did not consider the fact that you might actually want to change the graphic.

Changing note-tags is not a good idea.

Modifying scripts at run-time is a terrible idea.

Ok that's one side of the problem, Bigger problem comes in with busts, i have many busts 3 sets(emotions) for each character, for each of their sets of clothing, So i build a scene where the appropriate emotions are displayed by the right actors, so if i have a different set of clothes equipped what then? do i have to build ALL scenes in a 30h game to have conditional branches for each actor`s each set of busts?

Forgive me if i sound very silly, but if there is no way to do this i`m kinda screwed :S and have to give up on having a consistent costume system :(

I don't understand what you mean. Build a scene?

No, in such a case I would request an add-on to the bust system that chooses the correct picture based on two variables (one costume, one emotion) per actor.
Give each picture a consistent name system like actorname-1-1 with the first number for the costume and the second for the emotion.

Then have the bust script-addon specify the used picture name based on the choosen actor and to variables assigned to the actor.

After that, you just need to set the two variables for each actor depending on current costume and emotion.

However, that is most likely a script-addon that needs to be commissioned - most granted free requests are usually either small things or effects that can be used by many games...

Oh i get it! thanks, my thinking is backwards because i dont yet fully know the main logic behind the engine. Also commissioning is no problem! i dont expect free work :)

Thanks for the help, i`ll try and get a proper commission up soon.

Commission requests go in the Classifieds forum. Let me know if you want me to move this thread over there, or if you want to start a new thread, since your requirements seem to have changed.
