Howdy all! I apologise if this has been done before. But.... Final Fantasy! It has been around for many years, and hopefully it will be around for many more. Now with Final Fantasy 15 coming soon, what i was wondering is this...

1) What is your favourite FF game?

2) What is your least favourite?

3) Favourite Boss? Least Favourite Boss? Bosses you loved to hate?

4) Anyone played FF online?

5) Favourite & Hated characters?

I'm just curious, because i know a lot of people who dislike the series.

My favourite FF game would have to be FF VII. I just loved the entire thing. Least favourite was definitely FF X. And when FF X-2 came out i was just horrified at what i played. My favourite boss, would have to be Sephiroth. His massive blade was frickin awesome. i can't really think of any bosses that i didn't like. Probably would have to be the final boss of FF XII..... I just could not defeat him. Bosses i hated were the "weapons".... Emerald, ruby, ultima, omega.... they all sucked, but i loved beating them. And as for online, i have started FF XI, but i haven't played much of it. FF XIV is supposed to be pretty good, though i haven't seen much of it to be a good judge on it. Best characters were Cloud, Yuffie & Vincent from FF VII, Zell from FF VIII, Vivi and Steiner from FF IX. Hated all characters from FF X.

Well there we go. That doth be my list.

I'm afraid if I said my favorite FF game was Kingdom Heart, actual Final Fanstasy fans would stone me. So for now I'm going to go with FF4. which was the last one I actually beat. It had a strong story and cool characters. (Okay I lied, the actual latest FF game i played was 13. But I did not enjoy.) Which brings me to FF games I hate, 13 and 3 are two I hated playing through, I also have a pretty strong proxy hatred for 8 and 10/10-2 which I watched my sister play through, and she hated for good reason. (She wasn't even able to finish 8)

My favorite is FFIX followed by VII. IX is such a beautiful game that feels like love was put into every scene, and Vivi is my favorite character in the series. VII is more in line with the kind of genre I am generally interested in, I loved the mix of fantasy/technology, and the dark aspects from the humor (too many instances to list) and creepy bits like Jenova. Honestly it's pretty close to IX in my rankings.

My least favorite... probably FFII which might sound weird because I like SaGa. But II felt like a broken prototype and I only played through it because I was trying to go through all the games in order.

Favorite boss... um.. Ultros.

My least favorite characters are probably from X/X-2. Pretty much everyone other than Tidus, Yuna, Kimahri and Rikku were very frustrating to deal with to me (some of the minor characters like Shelinda and Brother (X-2) were just abhorrent lol).

@Pahhur FF 13 was absolutely crappy! It might of had ok graphics, but it was never a decent game. I found the whole storyline to be ridiculous, and the characters were non believable. There was no real connection with them. (Kingdom Hearts was excellent, though i personally wouldn't class it as final fantasy :p )

@noctiluca I never got to finish FFIX unfortunately. My playstation got stolen, as did all of my games. I was gutted. I remember getting the alexander summon, though i don't remember what disc that was. And X/X2, what really got me annoyed was blitzball. That alone made me loathe the game.

1) My favorite Final Fantasy game is a weird tie between 6 and A Realm Reborn.  9 was pretty up there.  Story didn't make a lot of sense, but that didn't drag the game down from being a good game.

2) Least favorite's probably got to be...10, but ONLY because of stupid Blitzball.  I HATE SPORTS OF ALL KIND.

3) Favorite boss would probably be Gilgamesh.  Every kind of Gilgamesh, but especially from A Realm Reborn and Bendermesh (13-2).

4) I have.  14 WAY more than 11, but I have played both.  I wish I could get into 11, but it feels kind of...lonelier than 14.

5) Favorite character's Kefka.  Hated (and even then, not that much...) character is Sephiroth.

@BlackestSoul I found very few redeeming qualities in FF13, and the only reason I mention KH is because the same company made it, and the section of the company that made KH is now working on FF15 last I heard. So it may end up being closer than we think XD

FF3/4 out of the numbered games.

FFT/A/A2 were all good, in my opinion, I put the most hours into FFTA.

And Bravely Default was top notch and can't wait for Bravely Second.

5) Favorite character's Kefka.  Hated (and even then, not that much...) character is Sephiroth.
I thought they both kinda similar, isn't? Though Kefka is much more crazy and spontaneous.

@Silenity, I agree, all FFT are great! I would love to play Bravely Default, but it seems it's available only on 3DS. Is there any change to try this game for those who don't have Nintendo 3DS?

Back to initial questions =)

1) What is your favourite FF game?

2) What is your least favourite?

3) Favourite Boss? Least Favourite Boss? Bosses you loved to hate?

4) Anyone played FF online?

5) Favourite & Hated characters?
1. FFIX, for me this game is not just a story, it's a masterpiece of art (music, graphics, world atmosphere, balanced difficulty and gameplay, etc.)

2. FFIII for mobiles (3D). Ridiculous random matters everything, unless you ready to extra level up you characters periodically.

3. Favourite boss - Ultimecia. Mostly because of an amazing soundtrack. Boss that I hate... I guess all bosses from FFIII 3D.

4. Yes, FFXI. Was to bored after a while and haven't been playing since then.

5. Favourite characters: Auron, Fang, Yuna, Tifa, Zack, Vivi, well, there are many of them =) Characters that I dislike.. hard to say, there none of them. No one could annoyed me, but there were some who I didn't care about and almost didn't used, for example gau (FFVI), amarant (FFIX), tellah (FFIV)

@Square_art

Unfortunately the Bravely Default series seems to be 3DS exclusives, for now anyway.

The holidays are coming up, though! Might be able to get one yourself! :]

Lots of awesome RPGs for the 3/DS. Chrono Trigger, Bravely Default, FF3/4, Fire Emblem, Disgaea, and Etrian Odyssey, just to name a few.

1: For me it would be ff8, for I liked the story and what they attempted with it. Though, I just wish it had a different battle system *cough* junction system *cough*, and I will admit the plot at the end feels like they drew ideas out of a hat (but honestly, what FF game after 6 doesn't feel that way after a while?). I will say that ff2 probably gets the runner up honor though just because its the only FF game I played where status aliments actually worked on bosses (seriously, why is it that status aliments NEVER work on anything you would ever care to cast them on in FF games?)

2: Least....hmmm...I didn't like ff3 (the real ff3, not ff3 as it is called in the US). Whoever decided that game should end with you going in a tower that takes 2.5 hours to complete before fighting the final boss with NO chance to save your game whatsoever needs to be banned from game development for life. That was awful, especially when you consider the final boss had a decent chance to do a total party wipeout unless you were quite a ways overleveled.

3: On bosses...I will say that my favorite bosses are ones that actually fit the story and don't result in a guide-dang-it. As it is, I have many least favorite bosses, like say almost all late game bosses of FFx, as too many of them required you to use tactics that you had NO idea to use unless you looked it up first (the game didn't teach them to  you, you just had to blindly stumble into them, or look them up. I mean can anyone honestly say they knew how to beat Yunalesca without looking it up first?).

4: No online stuff for me.

5: Hmmm...I'll have to return to this one, got a customer so will post this now.

1) Final Fantasy 6- Huge cast of characters, some hidden ones to find. Introduced a lot of series staples/qualities that were used in games to come such as limit skills and a system were you learned spells and abilities from an equipped material. It also has a unique story segment where the villain succeeds in destroying the better part of the world.

2) As much as I respect it for what it offered to rpgs at the time, my least favorite is the original Final Fantasy. It can be irritating to play at times and its storyline is very minimal. Honestly I'd love to see it remade as a full 3-d console game with an expanded storyline; they already made the Warrior of Light a popular character because of Dissidia and even connected the plot to the Original Final Fantasy so why not really make him the star of a game now.

3) My favorite boss fight was probably Braska's Final Aeon in X, its an emotional fight as the main character tidus confronts his father after sort of coming to terms with him as a parent, then you have the guys best friend Auron and The daughter of another one of his friends who respects him fighting him as well. Add in Dialogue segments using the talk command in battle and the completely epic song of Otherworld and it makes for an interesting boss fight.

Can't think of one I hated specifically but it would probably be one where the fight kind of drags on.

edit-Just read bgillisp's post about yunalesca can't believe I forgot that one; that fight was just unfair to the player.

4) Never played any of the online ones.

5) Favorites- Too many to list all of them but I think Rikku from X is one of the few "perky" character types that actually works well in the series. Also from X Auron is just pure awesomeness with his skills in battle and knowledge of events in the story; definitely my favorite mentor/older swordsman character type. Fang from 13 is great example of a more real/believable personality type; she's strong and slightly reserved but really cares for those she let's in like Vanille. There's way too many more to mention though, I like a lot of them.

Hated/least favorites- Vanille during the first parts of the story in 13; her overly perky personality is later to be reveled as somewhat of a front which may be works well enough in the story but doesn't change the fact it was supremely annoying until then. Also from 13 Hope, he seems old enough to realize that it probably wasn't snow's fault for the death of his mother and largely spends the game being annoying to the characters in it and to the player. His best moments are at least when he causes lightning to show some of her big sisterly aspects.

I'm sure there is more if I thought about it some, essentially creating a familiar personality type isn't a bad thing but at times square goes overboard with it and makes them a little too one dimensional.

1) What is your favourite FF game?

Probably VII, though VI and IX are very close.

2) What is your least favourite?

I've not played them all, but I really couldn't get into XII, despite having endured it for over 20 hours. I also lost interest in X-2 very quickly since it had no story hook at the start, so that one might be the least favourite from all those I touched.

3) Favourite Boss? Least Favourite Boss? Bosses you loved to hate?

Hmm, I don't remember them too well now. I do remember enjoying the final battle in FFVI. The way it was designed was very clever.

4) Anyone played FF online?

Nope. Don't like MMOs.

5) Favourite & Hated characters?

I always liked Cloud, since I could really relate to him and what he was going through. I also liked Aeris and Red from FFVII, Sabin, Terra, Celes, Cyan from FFVI, Vivi, Steiner, Amarant from IX, Auron and Rikku from X. Kefka was my favourite from the villains.

Least favourite would be pretty much most of the cast from XII and VIII (many of them felt flat), that Gau kid from VI, Yuffie (for constantly stealing my materia) and Cait Sith (he is way out of place in the game) from VII. Actually Tidus and Yuna from FFX kind of annoyed me too.

Returned to finish my post:

3 (more on): One of the issues I have with Final Fantasy games is many times the games feel like someone high up decided that the game MUST have a multi-round boss fight here, because all of the games do that. As such, you get many FF games that shoehorn in a boss fight right after one, even if the new boss fight makes no sense in the story. The biggest offenders of this are FF9 (does anyone think that 2nd round of the final fight belongs AT ALL?), and FF13-2 (that round 4 of that final fight...ugh).

It gets worse when some of these extra rounds that make no sense story wise are also so powerful that a well designed party that could mop the floor in all previous rounds is instant KO'd in the new round (this actually happened to me in ff13-2). Where was the warning that this could happen? Shouldn't the party have had a clue by struggling to get here? But no, sometimes FF games feel like someone high up said "This game must have another round on the final fight, and it must be HARD, because it is the final fight", with no build up to it and no planning.

Thankfully, this issue doesn't seem to exist too much in FF 7 and below.

(Note to developers: If you want a two round boss fight, make sure it MAKES SENSE to have such a fight. There's no rule that says a game must end in a 6 round boss battle that takes longer to win than it takes to watch a full length movie) *rant over*

5: I just replayed ffx, so my memory is more in that direction. I know some thought the FFX characters annoying, but I thought the game accurately protrayed teenagers in that situation. After all, how mature were you at the ages of 15 - 17? But personally, I like Squall, just because the game shows him growing up over the length of the game. Sure, he's a total jerk in the beginning, and completely inept and handing people, but I liked how as the game moved on he tried to change and to do better.

And maybe that is what I liked about ff8, as the characters are all very flawed, and as a result they feel more like real humans to me than some of the other games.

I thought they both kinda similar, isn't? Though Kefka is much more crazy and spontaneous.
There were also the motives behind both.  Sephiroth was trying to put JENOVA back together again so she could leave to the next world for her to destroy, although it's hard to say how much of Sephiroth's behavior was deliberately his or JENOVA's...

Kefka...Kefka just wanted to be the absolute force of the world's reason to exist or to not exist.

1 | favorite ff game: ohhh man ive always been a huge fan of iv. it has an infinite amount of nostalgic value for me and its simplicity has always drawn me back to it. it's quick to replay and fun to revisit all the places I visited as a kid, so i'm incredibly biased to iv. I also really adore vii, but that's almost a given. ix is also fantastic, and one of the best designed rpgs ive ever played. x was the first rpg in general that I played (although, I never beat it), so it also is important to me. iv wins my award, but I love a lot

of them.

2| least favorite ff game: everyone bashes xiii and xii, but honestly, they're fine in the grand scheme of things ( and I personally enjoyed xii a lot ). ii, on the other hand, was an experimental disaster. it was a perfect example of how to ruin an rpg, and, while its predecessor wasn't too outstanding, it could have potentially squandered the budding series potential. it gave very few directions, and left players wondering what on earth they were supposed to do to progress in the story. even the most shocking scenes were forgettable, and overall, the game lacked a lot of what made games good at the time. the battle system gets bashed the most, but it isn't TOO unbearable, just confusing. if it wasn't for the soundtrack, I doubt I would even still have my copy.

3| favorite boss? least favorite boss? boss I love to hate?: favorite would have to be zeromus, undoubtedly. he's not even close to being one of my favorite villains, but his boss fight was probably the most satisfying moment I've ever experienced in a video game. I remember the first time I beat him vividly just because of how excited I was that I finally kicked that guy's ass. it was iconic. on the other end of the spectrum, cloud of darkness from iii was just brutal. it was one of those bittersweet victories where you're so mad at the game that you don't even feel joy when you finally win. the stakes were so high in beating CoD (because of having to go back to the beginning of the cruelly difficult last dungeon if you lost) that it felt less like a fun, strategic battle and more like fighting an actual hell-bent personification of all things evil. maybe that was intentional, and, if so, good on square enix, but I had a bad time.

4| anyone played ff online?: REGRETTABLY, NO, but, soon-

5| favorite/least favorite characters?: cloud strife, controversial as he is, has always been well-characterized to me, as well as Barret, Nanaki, and Aerith. I adore Cecil, but Golbez is my favorite from IV. Zidane, Vivi - actually the entire cast of IX is incredible. I adore Balthier and Fran, and Tidus and Yuna are both extremely likeable as well. I haven't played VI yet, but I love Terra, Celes, and Edgar from what I've seen. As for characters I hate, it is tough for me to hate a lot of them. There are characters less developed than others, but I don't really hate anyone! :0

I liked FFX, personally, mainly for its combat system... i immediately discarded X-2, because it totally ruined the world of the first part.

Okay, I am ready to be bashed, trampled, killed on the spot, but here I come :D

I played only from Final Fantasy to Final Fantasy IX, so I can't say more about the later ones.

1) What is your favourite FF game?

By far, Final Fantasy VI. Very large world, two parts, hidden characters, and much more. Then comes Final Fantasy IV, followed by Final Fantasy IX.

2) What is your least favourite?

Final fantasy VII. I tried many times, but no, I couldn't continue. Maybe because I think it would have been better in 2D than that early ugly 3D. Maybe the characters don't appeal me. I don't really know, but it is the only Final Fantasy that I could not play until the end.

3) Favourite Boss? Least Favourite Boss? Bosses you loved to hate?

I never really wondered about my favorites bosses.

4) Anyone played FF online?

I tried Final Fantasy XIV briefly, but my computer wasn't powerful enough, so I stopped pretty quickly ^^

5) Favourite & Hated characters?

My favorite, Kefka, evil buffoon mastermind is by far my favorite character. And actually one of the few evil guys that succeeds in doing something. His battle theme is magnificent as I like classical and church organ music.

My least favorite one, is Rinoa from FF VIII. Could never like her.

My favorite FF is 1 on the Wonderswan, I'm not kidding. Ports aside, I'd have to give a cliche answer and say 7 is my favorite with 6 shortly behind it. And though I'm going to get shunned for this, I didn't care for 4, so far those are the only numbered games I've played.

The best boss was the Phantom Train just through aesthetics alone, I always wanted to Pummel a moving train.

1) What is your favourite FF game?

Probably FF12.  I liked the style of gameplay.

2) What is your least favourite?

FF8.  I couldn't be bothered to finish it.  I hated the whole drawing mechanic and I found the story to be stupid.

3) Favourite Boss? Least Favourite Boss? Bosses you loved to hate?

Favourite boss?  GILGAMESH!!  He shows up in almost every game in some form or another, always with his theme playing in the background.

Least favourite definitely has to be Yiazmat in FF12.  This bastard had a massive 50-million HP and took hours to kill.  90% of the fight is boring as you chisel away at his health, then all the sudden he goes into crazy mode and starts comboing your team to death.  The only nice thing about the fight is that you can actually leave the area to save without resetting the fight (assuming you don't allow him to cast Regen).

4) Anyone played FF online?

I've played both FF11 and FF14.  FF11 wasn't my type of MMO with it's requirements to party and slow leveling.  I started FF14 when A Realm Reborn was released.  I honestly don't know why I stopped playing it since I was enjoying it for the most part.

5) Favourite & Hated characters?

There's probably too many characters I like to bother listing them.  I hated Vaan in FF12, though.  He was just kind of there and had almost nothing to do with the story.  Also, what was up with those scary abs?
