Seeing as how it's kinda like cloud based or something, I hope we will have the option to "upload" our own games...

I was reading a short article in Game Informer on classic games, including Final Fantasy (which they developed in 4-6 months..... where did those days go? *sigh*). Apparently the company would have gone

out of business if there last project (Final Fantasy) flopped, hence the name "Final" (last attempt) "Fantasy" (because it was a fantasy game). Game naming was so simple back then.....

Sony hasn't given out complete details yet, probably because there working on it as we speak, we will just have to wait until they give us the entire story.

It also helped in game naming that there was no really not that many competitors outside tabletop RPG games back then. Final Fantasy was like only game to offer that kind of gaming experience back then outside of tabletops.

Dragon Quest, Ultima, Wizardry, Faxanadu, Dragon Slayer, Might and Magic, etc. etc all predate Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy was very obviously inspired by Dragon Quest, Ultima, and Wizardry in particular. (Where as Dragon Quest was inspired strongly by Ultima and Wizardry).

Don't forget tabletops as well. The core system of FF closely resembles dungeons and dragons.

Just replayed FFXII in-depth, and I dare say it could be my favorite of the series. The story, both the political and philosophical sides of it, had the most promise of any of them I think. I rather enjoyed the combat system this time around, and the writing was Shakespearean in quality. It was an absolute masterpiece, if only the story didn't feel rushed in the last third of it.

Am I the only one that hates that kind of writing? I mean, compare FFT's original script to that of the PSP remake. The new one had all sorts of speech alterations that strode away from the characters themselves, whereas the original one had a very concise approach to dialog (which resulted in a more fluent narration, in my opinion). Needless to say, I enjoyed the PS1 version a lot more just because of that.

The original translation was a mess. It had grammar and just word choice errors everywhere, and there are plenty of side points that are easily easily MISSED because they are terribly explained.

Even if you dislike the new translation's style, it is a much CLEARER translation of the situation than the original was. And honestly, I felt the style worked really well. Everyone who spoke with the kind of "shakespearean" sounding English was either a Noble, or raised with Nobles, and then you got a more down to earth slang sounding speech from your general rogues and commoners. I don't know which points you felt pulled away from the characters. I think it was one of the few games where that style REALLY worked, mostly because of the themes of the game.

Maybe greensburg didn't play the US release of the PS One version (i.e. a foreign release instead)? You're right that the translation in America was atrocious.

To my knowledge, there was only the Japanese and North American release of the original.

No, Chrono Trigger isn't a good game.

It's one of the greatest games of all time. Or at least on the SNES.

There were better games than Chrono Trigger on SNES.

Tales of Phantasia, Tactics Ogre, and Rudra No Hihou in particular.

Not saying CT was bad, but games past 1995-1996 on the SNES were better.
