Final product won't run

I've tried several different things and I'm stumped. I've finished my game and everything runs perfectly after I "deploy" it. I try to put it up on Dropbox  and download it from there to test and see if it works and it doesn't start up. What did I do wrong? Everything is fine until then. I've read that I have to upload ALL the files that come with the "deployment", but that makes my tiny 8 hour grinding marathon into a 1GB monster instead of the simple 45MB it SHOULD be. What do I do about this?

I've moved this thread to MV deployment. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

You need to give us more info before we can help. What exactly did you upload and what error messages do you get trying to start it?

About the game size: you can remove unused resources from your game to reduce the size, but you have to make sure that they're really unused - that is why a lot of the base resources aren't autoinstalled into the projects, because people rarely use all those resources in a single game.

There are already plugins that check for and list unused resources inside the project folder.

I don't know what more to tell you. I uploaded the final game exe to Dropbox (45MB) , downloaded that, tried to run it except nothing happened. It didn't even start no matter what I did (administrator permission, etc). I uploaded everything as .rar which could be unpacked with Winrar (or other programs) and it's fine, but it increased the size of the game to 0.9GB. I don't want a tiny little story that I finished in 2 days to be that large. Not much I can do about "unused" resources because I used a little of everything. I can't go scraping around those folders removing every little thing. That would take longer than it did to make the game.

Essentially, what I'm asking is how do I make my game upload a smaller size so people won't have to download something so ridiculously big. The game SHOULD only be 45MB. It isn't. I see games MUCH bigger than mine that are only 60 MB downloads. What do I have to do to make THAT happen.

If you only upload the exe, then it will not run.

You need to include all resources that you use! But you can remove unused stuff from the deployment folder to keep the size as small as possible.

I'm still new to this myself, but it sounds like you're used to earlier versions that use an external RTP. With MV, each deployment is standalone, so it needs all the files it's using to be in its folder. If you have sounds or images you aren't using, those can cut down on the size quite a lot. As for avoiding the work involved in "pruning" your game... not much to be done there, but I remember passing by some plugins and software that can do it for you. Could be worth a search.
