RMMV
Sweet, the only podcast worth listening to returns. :D

On the topic of battles. Agreed with everything said in the podcast, and is a good reminder for me to keep paying attention to the value of buffs/debuffs/conditions. Something funny on the final part about breaking a game through some combo was something I found while testing my own game. Have a character buff the attack of another character who has a weapon that can strike multiple times in a turn = WIN!! :D Turning my weakest physical attacker into the strongest attacker for a few turns while the buff is active.

Oh, that sounds cool.

Can you tell me how did that?

Reynard suffers from a rare and unfortunate disease known as "not living in a relevant time zone"

hopefully he can overcome the hardships associated with this and return

If I've conquered it, I'm sure he can too. We just have to believe in him.

West Coast is Best Coast. All the videogames are made here. So. You're the ones living in futureland with your musicals and lack of porn studios.

Also, it's called pinging me on Skype to wake me up. DAT NIGHT SHIFT MEANS I SLEEP IN DAWG.

Man, it was a breath of fresh air hearing you guys again! And welcome back Kilim~ I did really enjoy your views on battle and what not, especially making a turn count to the player. An example of games that really utilise buffs and/ or states is pretty much one of 2 Atlus games (Shin Megami Tensei for Buffs/ Debuffs and Etrian Odyssey for States. Poison is the WORST state you can have bar Sleep).

I love how Pokemon kept being brought up during the Podcast, because despite it's aimed at children (despite 60% of it's fanbase well in or over their 20s), it really does have some great, unique complex battle mechanics. I know you mentioned Trick Room, but weather set ups are good too. Rain Dance for example; doubles the power of Water types moves, halves Fire, Electric types moves have 100% accuracy and some Pokemon receive benefits depending on their ability. (Dry Skin and Rain Dish restore HP, Swift Swim doubles the speed stat and Hydration which cures any status ailment inflicted whilst in the rain). Some really nice stuff there~

Yesssssssssssssssssssss

I used to always listen to this podcast while making graphics for my game. I blame its long absence for my recent lack of productivity.

Woah, wait, there are TWO new episodes? Sweet.

Great episode. I often use the podcasts as a way of seeing how well my game design match other people's conception of good design, and as such it is invaluable.

Some places I felt the commentary glossed a bit over some of the finer points of the topic that could have been mentioned, but that's to be expected considering the long hiatus and the alcohol(?).

Great job in either case. Looking forward to the next one.

I read a lot of the articles on the blog, but up until now I didn't give the podcast a try.

So glad I finally listened in ^^ There is some really interesting and helpful stuff in there. I listen to it while I map or edit stuff ^^

Please continue :)

Yes! It's so nice to see this continuing! I just finished listening to Episode 16, and it was a great episode. I like how you don't always agree on the same points, and provide multiple perspectives for each scenario.  :D

WHAAAAAAT

new episode's up!!!

EPISODE 18 - PLAYER PSYCHOGRAPHICS

This week, Despain, ReynardFrost, Kilim and CaptainJet discuss the three player psychographics: Johnny, Timmy, and Spike. What are they? What does it mean? And how can you apply these concepts to your game design?

So, what psychographic do you primarily fall under? What does your game cater to? Leavr your comments below or on the site!
I'd rather just sit and use Freudian Ids, Egos and Superegos in my game. Maybe some Jungian shadows too! :p

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
Yay, now back in action Happy Christmas time, coming back!

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
