I'm trying to set up a trial of fire kinda thing for a part of my map.

The room will be pitch black and every 20 secs fires shoots out of the ground lighting the room and showing the safe path to walk

I have the timing part down but I can't seem to figure out how to set it up when the player is on TOP of one of the fires when it goes off, it kills hims when he is on it.

Check the position of the player and compare it to the event position on the parallel process page that has the flame active. Use control variable and conditional branch for that.

Alternatively have one parallel event check the player position and compare it to all flames

Then I suggest you work through the tutorials to learn more about the program - it has too many options to learn everything by do-it-yourself. The link in my signature should help you with that.

But to answer the question, one of the (many) uses of the control variable command is to load game data into the variable, for example the X and Y positions of the player and of events. As a developer, you know where you placed the flame (or you can get that by control variable as well).

So you have to check if the X-Pos and the Y-Position of the player is on one of the active flames when the flame is active.

That is because you cannot have two triggers - the event is either parallel process OR it triggers by event touch. Both at the same time is not possible, so either the activation timing or the contact check has to be done by another event.

could you please explain how to do this one thing for me?

I need to fill in all the spots with the first minus the green(safe path). And i understand how variables work but I dont understand how to set up what you are explaining.

I figured it out. I set up the timer on a separate PP event and made the "blank" fire space set to make it so when the player is on it they die when a flame it lit.

I set events on the safe paths to set the variable to 0 instead of one and the fire spaces to set it to 1.

1=game over when flames go off.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
