Uhh...does D&D count? For video games, Pokemon Yellow on the GBC.
Lets see, the first rpg that I ever played would be Pokemon Yellow, Red and Blue.
For me, it was Dragon Warrior on the NES. Ironically, I'm working on a remake with MV.
Probably pokemon for me, I remember learning how to read so I could actually play it better, before my only game boy game was a game & and watch gallery game which to this day I've never seen another cart for that game.
It was Phantasy Star (the very original) for the Sega Master System for me. Still is perhaps the best RPG I've ever played.
pokemon but never get a lv 100 monster (sadness)
I don't even remember which RPG was my first one, I've played too many. lol But, trying to go back in time and remember, I guess it is safe to say that it was Breath of Fire, for the SNES.
Mine was the Aveyond series! Specifically, the third one. Mind you, I still think the price of each quarter of the game is a bit silly no matter how much I love it.
Mine was probably FF9.
I remember, in the time where you had a DEMO in magazines, I only could watch the cinematic of FF9 on my PS1.
Just with that, I bought the game, and god I don't regret it.
Super Mario RPG!
Chrono Trigger... quite possibly the best introduction to RPGs one could ask for.
First one I ever played was Xenoblade Chronicles. Quickly became a favorite in the JRPG franchise considering I'm the type of guy who values story-telling above gameplay.
Legend of Zelda on the NES, am I showing my age?
Then Dragon Quest.
Besides Zelda didn't get into them until SNES. Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Zelda a Link to the Past. I remember buying some Nintendo Power magazines to help figure out the different endings in Chrono Trigger.
I can't exactly recall my first RPG, but my first Final Fantasy was Mystic Quest, and I'm not ashamed to say that I love it.
I had a top down D&D engine game called "Blades Of Exile" which came as shareware from an old demo disk, went from that to pokemon blue. Ah nostalgic times. ^_^
Pokémon Red on a big fat O.G. grey game boy. Really enjoyed it, and even traded with friends through a link cable.
Legend of Dragoon I think, and still think it's one of the best. Unfortunately, since it isn't final fantasy or Chrono trigger, it doesn't have a bunch of localizations to new platforms so I can't pick it up and see whether that's actually true or if it's all just childhood nostalgia.
LoZ for the NES, then FFI.
I don't really remember but I think it was 'off'. Still an all time favourite for me
It's Front Mission 4 in PS2. (although it's an SRPG)
While I came from PS2 generation, I'm fascinated with GBA and DS games lately.
