I think it was Pokemon Silver. I played a lot of it in these day on my GC. Sometimes I wish I just can go back to these day and just play game without worring about stuff.

The NES retail availability ended in 2003, making it one of if not the longest running console ever. So just because you've played NES doesn't mean you're old.

Suikoden, FF7 then followed by Breath of Fire 3. All on PS1.
With Suikoden, I didn't even know how to change equipment back then but managed to complete the game anyway.

And let me tell you, when those Shadowlords just showed up out of the blue and started jacking you up, it was most terrifying thing in the world.

Pokemon Ruby on my 5th birthday, back then I called then "Choose your attack games" since I had no idea what I was doing. I couldn't really read, nor did I want to read in a video game so I put it down pretty quickly.

First RPG I ever actually played and got real into was Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium. An utter classic that I enjoy to this day and it remains my favorite Phantasy Star games. First western RPG I remember was FATE on the PC, which was fun.

Legend of Mana and FF9 were the very first RPG games that I've ever played and they did a great job introducing me to the world of RPGs. :)

    Breath of fire IV,
It's best of the best for me.

    Awesome sprite and storyline.

It's manga released 2 year ago.

D&D. With pencil, paper, and various sided dice.
There were no computer RPGs then.

@Frogboy What a beautiful cover painting!

@GolfHacker Which one was your first videogame RPG?

I can't even remember mine. Perhaps Willow? It was probably a rental.

@starlight dream I don't even remember the name of it. It was a text-based adventure on a friend's Commodore 64 about a tower in the woods and a dragon. My buddy and I played that for hours, working together to try to solve the puzzles. In 1985, my parents bought a PCjr. I was in high school at the time. The only RPG/adventure type game we got for it was King's Quest. Loved that game! After I graduated, I bought myself a NES and the original Legend of Zelda.

Oh and I remember playing Gauntlet in the arcade games for hours on weekends with my friends. I have no idea how many quarters we burned through...

@GolfHacker So Commodore 64 had more fun to offer than I imagined! There weren't many RPG options at the time, even when the NES came out. And it wasn't easy to acquire games either. I remember we'd buy games without knowing what the gameplay looked like at all. Nice $70 gamble each time :p
My first fantasy-gaming experience was the Choose your own Adventure books.^^ I've seen some of them available on Steam now in digital format heehee.

@starlight dream I still have about a bunch of those Choose Your Own Adventure books! I've got five from TSR, three based on Tolkien's books, and one Sherlock Holmes mystery like that. Those were fun!

    @GolfHacker Good taste!
Based on Tolkien's books? That sounds fun, I'll have to run a search on those! :)

@starlight dream The books I have are:

Tolkien Quest: Night of the Nazgul
Tolkien Quest: The Legend of Weathertop
    Middle-Earth Quest: Rescue in Mirkwood

Hopefully the titles will make it easier to find them.

According to the inside jacket, the publisher was supposed to release nine more books in 1986. I'll have to hunt for those myself! Would be fun to have some new CYOA books to read/play through!
