This is really cool! I'd like to use it... but I don't really have any skills with art, so I was wondering... would it be possible for you to release some more palette swaps of the fish, bait and rods? Just color changes, nothing else. Just like, red, blue, green, yellow, orange, purple, black, white, etc. Just a few normal colors. That'd be really awesome if you would.

I could do that for you but not sure when I will get to it. Perhaps you could try asking in resource requests for fish

Do the fish there happen to already have movement sprites similar to what is necessary in this script? If not then I'll go make a request elsewhere (Unless someone here wouldn't mind taking up the challenge, for which I would be most grateful). Thanks for linking those fish!

@Galv: Thank you SO much for making this script! I've already tested and implemented it into my game, and fully intend on making use of it in one of the systems I had already wanted to use, but with this it will be far more interesting. In my game you need to eat to keep your stats up, hehe. Not to mention all the little side-quests one could apply to this fishing game, from encounters to finding special hidden items.

I tried downloading it, but the Internet system says that its corrupted. And I only got the script.

And also, a question. Can you actually replace fishes with something else?

Are you using Chrome? It looks like Chrome thinks the extract .exe files aren't safe for all my scripts. They aren't corrupted and I have run scans and tests and they are fine

Yes, you can make your own graphics for fish and their behaviour. The demo includes examples of this being a rock you can snag the line on, a chest, a monster, etc. You could make crabs that walk on the bottom if you wanted.

Yes, I'm using Chrome. And it does act like that. So I'll just download the thing all the same.

Oh okay, thanks. Are there any tutorials for this? Also how do you put the actual mingame inside the actual game?

How to Use
1. Download the demo
2. Copy the script from the demo to your project under Materials and above Main.
2. Copy the /Graphics/GFish/ folder from the demo into your project
3. Read script instructions and settings to learn how to use it.

I haven't made any tutorials, only instructions. It's not plug and play or newbie friendly.

This looks really cool!

Can't wait to catch jellyfish, octopi, and whales! (if I actually get around to using this script in a project, I'll try spriting some of those...wait, there already is jellyfish! hmmm...)

There is something else though. Is there like a large size of that paper thing (called a hub I think) that displays the scores?

I'm not sure what you are asking but what you see is what you get :)

Greetings Mr. Galv,

First, let me say I absolutely love the mini-game.  It's the best fishing minigame I've found yet (and I've looked at a LOT.  lol..

Second, and here's where it gets tricky..

I would like to use your script for my game which could end up turning into a commercial style game.  At present it is not but sometime down the road I might consider doing such..  As this is a thought within my head, I feel that it is important that I contact you on this matter.  I do not mind looking for my own graphics if that is the concern, or even discussing with you the potential for payment should I in fact decide to go commercial.  I will be more than happy to give you my standard game credit (which in my game involves adding a NPC character for you somewhere, explaining that you helped design the game and exactly what parts you did.)  If this is acceptable, then please let me know.  I shall be monitoring this site frequently awaiting a reply.  At present, I do not know what kind of market there is or even how many might be interested in such a game.  I'm designing it more for a personal few but will make it available to the public should anyone be interested.  If it becomes popular enough, I might even go commercial with it (hence the reason for contacting you)

(INFO ABOUT THE GAME THAT I AM WORKING ON IN CASE YOU DO NOT WISH TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH IT)

The game I am making is hopefully the first of many games in a series that goes through the bible one book at a time.  The first one is the story from the Book of Genesis and features things such as the Garden of Eden, Fall of Man, and so on.  Most of it is taken directly from the bible with my own side stuff to help make it fun.  It will have things like gathering items (such as fish), branches, leaves, animals, and a lot of other stuff.  I plan on having some crafting stuff for it as well as trivia relating to what's going on which will hopefully encourage people to go look things up to claim the prize.

The player will have the option of playing through several different stories as several different figures from the bible such as Adam or eve, Cain or Abel, Abraham or Sarah, and many more featured within the books and future games.

It is my goal to make the bible fun and exciting for people while teaching them about it at the same time.  If you do not wish to be a part of it, I will simply withdraw your script from the game and will look elsewhere.  I feel that your game would be a valuable asset to it however and that is why I chose you.

The current demo.. (version 1.5 can be found @

Let me know :)

Sincerely,

Joshua A. Laloge

If your game ends up going commercial, just PM me. Otherwise if it's free, feel free to use the script.

What is the largest sprite dimensions you can use in this script? I want to make a rare giant fish.

There's no maximum sprite size. I haven't tried using giant fish but it should work with whatever size you make.

Is there anyway that I can make the fishing minigame a bit more quiz-style? Like, catching the fish that represents the right answer, kind of thing?

If you can't get something to work using conditional branches outside the fishing script then the script itself won't do that.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
