Just got a hold of RPGMaker VX Ace while it was on sale on Steam. It's a pretty powerful toolset: I was impressed.
I am making a game as a birthday present for my brother, and was hoping to add two nonstandard features to an otherwise standard game with scripts.
Is there a script out there for having a five-member party in combat, first off?
And second, how would you go about having a character with highly variable directed growth?
Here's what I mean by that: one of the characters - ONLY one - I imagine as being able to fill any role in the party and can pick how they want to direct their stat bonuses on level up. They also have some choice in their abilities that the other classes do not. (The fact that he's named after my brother is, of course, a coincidence).
All of the other characters have fixed stat growth and abilities, but can get some additional abilities from items and have different builds.
I suspect I'm going to need to script that, either as a prompt on level-up or with consumable items that only the protagonist can use. Possibly both.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
