So, there's a part in my game where a battle with something is forced upon you. I've already done the battle processing, but I really want to make the battle happen the way I want it to.

The battle is between you and a monster. And I want that monster to use the move "Poison Cloud" on the first turn, and for it to always succeed. (sometimes it says the move failed, and the player isn't poisoned :( )

I'm looking at the events, and I'm seeing something called Force Action, and I feel like that may be what I need. But I don't understand how to use it.

When I use the Enemy dropbox, it just has numbers with blank spaces next to it.

Can someone please tell me how to use this?

Thanks in advance.

The enemy dropbox refers to the index of the enemy - or the order in which you added them to the troop. If you only have one enemy in the troop, it will be #1. It only shows numbers because you can use the command in any battle, against any troop (which could consist of any enemy), and the editor doesn't know which troop you're talking about.

You COULD create a second "poison cloud" skill that is guaranteed to succeed and give it (or both) to your enemy, then use ratings and/or other conditions in the enemy's Action Patterns to force that skill on turn 1 and disable it for the rest of the battle.

"Force Action" can only be done in the Troops Tab, as it is part of Battle Control under the Event Commands. When you use the command to Force Action, you are then given the parameters to choose which enemy should do which action, and how it should affect the opposing Troop, if at all. For example, if you want the 2nd member of the enemy Troop to do a specific action, you would choose No. 2 from the Enemy Dropbox. Remember that this can only be done in battle events in a Troops page. Then, if you wanted that particular member to use a specific action, like your Poison Cloud, go to the Skill Dropbox under Action, and then select that skill. Finally, if you want to target a specific member of the party, that's where Target comes in, where you have Random, which targets any member, Last Target (which I believe is the last target you attacked/used a skill on before initiating the Force Action), and then Index 1-8. Index can be equated to the different members of your party, so for example, Index 1 would be the first party member, and then so on and so forth. The same thing applies to Enemies as well.

That was a bit long-winded but I hope you understand.

I did wonder that as I was posting, but I didn't take the time to go and test it. That'll teach me :)

Thanks so much! You explained it really well for me.

Now I have another question about the Poison Cloud. Like I said, it fails sometimes, and I want to know how I can stop it from failing. I would like it to 100% always poison the player.

I know that if I go into Skills, it'll show Poison Cloud and show me everything it has to offer, but I need to know how to do what I mentioned up there ^

Thanks again in advance

Can you show a screenprint of how you've got the skill set up?

I did suggest creating a duplicate skill that has no chance of missing.
