So... I just reached the obvious conclusion that the "Continue without button prompt" (\^) text command noted in Yanfly's Message Core does not mix well with the instant speed option present in Yanfly's Message Speed Option Plugin, causing the message with the text command to be instantly skipped (even if I shove a half-dozen pause commands in there). There's no text/plugin commands that I can find to manually adjust text speed or disable instant speed, either.

Is this an problem others have run into? Has anyone found any workarounds that don't involve never ever using "\^"? A way to make pauses appear when using instant speed, maybe?

That's normal. That's exactly the feature. There's no problem there.
This => \^
mean "Remove wait for player input". Literally mean the game won't wait for the player input and will skip the message once it's completed.
It's usually are accompanied with => \. or \|

But then you use this "intant speed"... of course the whole message box will be instantly skipped!

So if you want to use \^ for monologues/interruptions in cutscenes and the like, you can't also use the message speed option plugin for your game as anyone using instant speed (which doesn't seem like it can be disabled) will screw themselves over and miss the dialog entirely (somewhat mitigated if you have the message log plugin, true, but still seems pretty bad)...

Good to know that things are working as intended, though that seems like an odd design choice. I at least wish that there was eval code in relation to text speed that I could use with advanced switches to show a version of the text without the "\^" if they are on instant speed.

.... did you even read my post?
Nothing's wrong with the plugin.
I said, if you want to use "\^" effectively for monologues, you have to put it after wait! "\." or "\|"
Because that's how you normally use it. And you can even put as much as you see fit.

...given your response, I’m not positive that I’m communicating my problem properly.

When I use \^, I always put in pauses. For the most part, it works. I know to use “\. and “\|”.

What bothers me (and may or may not be intentional) is how the \^ function interacts with Yanfly’s Message Speed Option Plug-in.

When I set message speed to instant, all of the “\.”s and “\|”s in my dialog are utterly ignored... which you report to be intentional. Even when a message ends with “\|\|\|\|\^”, the entire window will pop up and vanish in under a second if text speed is set for instant.

to be clear:
1. I like that message speed gives faster text speeds (I am using speed 10 as default).
2. I like that message speed gives players control over message speed.
3. I hate that using message speed means that my players might set speed to instant and automatically skip any dialog ending in \^.

So... is there any way to let a game with instant speed (or the option to use it) use the \^ function (or something similar) without looking outright broken? Even if everything is working just as intended, it would be nice to use both features (interruptions + instant speed) without the end user getting an awkward, unreadable result.

EDIT: While I'm not sure that this specific interaction has a workaround, I just found and am now using Kino's Slow Text Plugin (URL: https://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?threads/kino-slow-text.58169/), which gives control over text speed (even mid-scene!) without putting total control into player hands and enabling the visual oddity of Instant speed + \^. With that said, I am still interested if anyone has a workaround for the original question.

I have the same issue (the post hasn't completed 3 months since the last reply, is it necroposting?) I'd like to be able to disable the instant message option, I even tried to find a way, but couldn't

I think I will want portraits and battle sprites to be 2D and stick to pixel art for overworld not 100%sure but pretty sure its easier to make pixel art for overworld sprites, events and maps and stuff.
