Forest Life is a fishing + life-sim inspired by Animal Crossing (and similar cozy games) with a nostalgic GameBoy aesthetic.

SYNOPSIS
Play as a young traveling beaver among other woodland creatures. You’re the newest resident in the town of (insert your town name) in the middle of an idyllic forest that’s perfect for fishing, gardening, and making friends! However, the townsfolk have suffered a series of earthquakes that have caused serious damages to roads and buildings. Is there anything you can do to help them?

GAMEPLAY
Forest Life’s gameplay revolves around catching and selling fish. You can use the money you’ve earned to pay for the Town Restoration Project to repair buildings and clear up roads in the forest to access more fishing spots. Earn a passive income by stocking the aquarium or growing crops. We’ve kept the game mechanics simple and relaxing. There’s around 3-4 hours of gameplay to reach the end, or you can more than double your playtime by diving into the side content.

FEATURES
  • Customize your home with over 150 pieces of unique furniture, floorings, and wall hangings. Upgrade and expand your rooms! The Trendy Home Magazine may even review and give feedback on your home!
  • Over 30 (31 to be exact) fish to catch! Upgrade your fishing rod to reel in bigger fish! Sell them to make money or donate your catch to the local aquarium. You can visit the aquarium and view your fish in its new habitat at any time.
  • These whimsical townsfolk are excited to make new friends. They may even send you gifts if they take a liking to you.
  • Games within a game! Carry around your PixelBoy and challenge other villagers to Pixel-Pet battles. Or set up a video game console in your home to play mini-games to pass the time.
  • A small personal garden (sorry, this isn’t a full farm-sim) can earn you a little extra money on the side.
  • There's plenty to do in town! The Auction House, the Crane Game, the hot spring, and more! But some of these spots have been damaged and you'll have to help fund the repairs to get them up and running again.
  • Find wood in the forest to craft furniture or buy what you like at the local thrift store! There’s over 70 pieces of furniture to craft! The rest can be obtained through exploration, shops, and helping villagers.
  • Explore the Forest north of town. You’ll meet characters, solve a few puzzles, explore secrets, and maybe discover the truth behind the recent earthquakes.

Looks like something straight out of a Game Boy Color, I love it. Can't wait to play it.

@fizzly Thank you!! Yess, the simplicity of the original Animal Crossing was the main inspiration.

@Former_Sky Woo! Glad to hear that. We tried to capture that GBC look. Thanks for checking it out!

No matter what they all say, but the world needs more fantasy fishing games (simulations abound...)!

I'm not a fan of anthropomorphized animals, but this was clearly made with a lot of love :wub and looks fantastic in every way. Great work so far, wish you much success with the final spurt! :thumbsup-right:

@Finnuval Ahhh!!! It's so cute, I love it!! Absolutely made my day. Thank you!! My wife did all the character art for this game and your art made her soo happy, haha

@Feuergeist Agreed! We need more fishing sims, especially ones that embrace fantasy settings. Thanks for the kind words!

imgur sure is getting weird, one day I lose gradually all my images, the other I get them back randomly and then again they disappear again.
Despite OPT2 praise it still has some strange stories in it. Lady Mikka is trying to work herself to death because of guilt. Guilt over what? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ So instead of finding a NPC to have a heart to heart with her they decide the cure is a new kimono. So when she drops dead she'll at least be well dressed. I haven't even got to the strange part yet.
Did so much work on the game today. I wish I could post it all in this status update but there is a character limit of course haha. I thought about making a topic for updates, though... maybe.
The most recent sign that I am old. I have done martial arts for over 4 decades. Never HAD to stretch out. Good, of course, but never required. Was doing some kicks in the kitchen because, why not, and I felt a pop in the back of my thigh. Now I am limping around. Gotta love getting old.
One of the biggest perks of being fluent in English is how many new and interesting recipes I am able to find and try out that I would have hardly come across if I just spoke my mothertounge :3
