Because as Touchfuzzy said in the opening post, the templates are messed up.

Gosh, thank you for that. This (2) was driving me insane every time I opened up the forum.

Also, does anyone else have the problem that the alerts/notifications/search tabs seem to be on Light Mode despite having the settings set to Dark Mode? Because every time I click on my alerts, I get blinded by it and I have to hover over the message to even be able to read it.

I have this.
After a year of no update on this matter, I've dealt with it myself.
I prefer to stick to a dark theme (with its several flaws) instead of staring at the light theme (I'm turning most of the sites to a dark theme whenever possible).

Because as Touchfuzzy said in the opening post, the templates are messed up.

it's been like this for the dark theme since the forum engine change.

I've been getting (4) for the "ghost notification" and, sure enough, there were 4 notifications I never clicked on.
