Hiya! :kaohi: Writing stories for RM is hard, believe you me, but I'm here to show you some helpful writing software and websites! Feel free to tell me about software and/or websites I dunno about and give valid reason on why it's good, and I'll add it to the list!

Anyway, onto the list!

1) Quoll Writer
I personally use this for general writing and writing for RM (whenever I work on the game lul), but anyway, it's a really nice piece of software!! It's like Scrivener, but free and with less unneeded crap. Sadly, it's Windows only (rip Mac users), but it is really good, and it'll save ya forty bucks. ;)

2) Name Generator by Mediafreeware
This is a pretty straightforward piece of software despite the website looking slightly seedy. (If there are security threats, please let me know and I'll remove this entry AND remove it from my computer.) It's gotten me out of several pickles, since I struggle with names.

3) Focuswriter
This is best when you just wanna write, no worrying about spelling things wrong, no worrying about distractions, just write. While Quoll Writer allows a distraction-free mode, I've noticed it's sorta buggy. This is primarily for distraction-free writing, and very straightforward at that!

4) FYCD
(Not stating the full name of that because it's vulgar). This tumblr is for character development, and it offers free resources! It also gives advice for character devving, since there's never a wrong way to develop a character, but there's always a better way.

5) Page2Stage
This is a slightly older piece of software, but still very helpful! Though, it's probably not stable due to it being for Windows 7 and/or XP. Anyway, it's for scriptwriting, sorta like FinalDraft, but it doesn't cost a million dollars or so. Link: http://www.page2stage.com/

6) Bibisco
I don't know much about this, but it seems like a good option! Link: http://www.bibisco.com/

7) CatlookingWriter

8) Celtx
Link: https://www.celtx.com/index.html

9) Google Docs

10) Charahub
This online tool is great for character development, at least in my opinion. It's sorta like Persona (not the game bakas, the writing tool), but online, and not forty dollars.

That's pretty much all I have, but again if anyone has anything else I missed, please do tell me! Anyway, see ya later.

EDIT: I'm dumb, I meant FocusWriter.

Hope you don't mind me adding something in. I looked up an open source, freeware alternative to Scrivener and found bibisco. Apparently people are saying it's actually better than Scrivener so if this helps others, then it's a good thing.

Great list. With your license, I'd like to include FocusWriter. It is a very basic editor similar to Word. His proposal is - as the name says - to avoid any distraction and keep the focus on writing. I still prefer the papers - especially if used in a Hamington 12. But these programs are sensational to maintain a good organization. Thanks for sharing.

@Faherya I'm dumb, I meant Focuswriter, not Freewriter.

Oops, so the mistake was mine for not having researched on a FreeWriter haha. I take this comment to suggest two other editors. I did not test any of them personally, but some friends recommended me.

Just thought I'd share my experience!

I've been using Celtx for a while to write the script for an animation project, and I would like to note that only its very basic features are free after the trial ends! For example, you can't have episodic scripts in the free version. You can really only write in a single document per project and not do much else. It's a great software if you want to auto-format your script while writing but very restricting if you don't want to pay its monthly fee.

To add to the list, there's Google Docs, which I use a lot for all kinds of writing and planning. It's free, can be accessed from anywhere (there's even apps for mobile) and has all the features of a good text processor. For outlining a plot you can also additionally use Google Sheets, which is basically Microsoft Excel but free and online.

@Arisa-Chan I think it might be helpful to have links to the various pieces of software in the opening post, otherwise people will have to go hunting, which would reduce the usefulness of this thread.

@Kes TwT I know, but I was always afraid to add links since I didn't know if it counted as advertising or not. I'll get to it! :kaosalute:
