I dislike the sideview battle system and always preferred 2000 and the XP, VX and Ace way of frontview.

How do you make a frontview battle system in this, much closer to the usual RPG Maker engines and those of Dragon Quest?

Doing a custom battle system in 2k3 is A LOT of work and usually involves teleporting the player to a new map, where everything is handled via events and variable pointers.

I don't want to make a new custom battle system, I just want to change the current one to frontview because I don't like the idea of my characters being animated but the monsters just staying there.

I don't really have experience with 2k3, but i imagine you could try to fake this by setting all character battle poses to transparent images and change all enemy skills, so they don't show animations on target.

Good idea, setting all enemy cast animations as global instead of local then? This probably would work, though is there a way to change the speed of ATB?

There is no way to change the ATB speed currently. Before the release we had DynRPG and various patches we could use to manipulate the ATB gauge. But since that currently is out of the question, you can't remove the ATB from the battle system.

If you just want the look, you can move each hero to the bottom of the screen (Database -> Battle Layout). You need to position each hero manually, which shouldn't be a problem with only 4 heros. You could even try to hide them behind the messagebox if you want.

If you move each hero behind the messagebox/portraits you'd still have to make them invisible, though, and unless you use portraits, you might not want to make them battle animation targets.

You can go to the actor and/or class tags and set the sideveiw sprites as blank, then move the battle layout boxes to the bottom (they'll be transparent boxes)

As for getting around the ATB, the best I can recommend is to make sure everyone has the exact same speed... but that won't be perfect.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
