How do you enable full screen mode in on HDMI TVS?

My laptop is sometimes hooked up to the HD TV via HDMI but when pressing alt+enter or even with the aid of a script nothing happens.

If I hit alt+enter the tilesets on the right (above the map tree) blinks quickly and that's it.  If I try to force it with an aid of a script launching the game, nothing happens.

If I try to 'trick' RM by unplugging HDMI cable, launching test mode, then plugging the cord back in, RM just crashes.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

That... sounds like the problem is more between the laptop and the TV than in the RPG Maker, actually.

Just to clarify, when the laptop's hooked up to the TV, does it generally display in fullscreen?

Also, as a troubleshooting experiment - if you have any old games (DOS games as very specific relevant example), do they have the same issue?

Full screen works when it's not hook up via HDMI, only when it's hooked up.

Games and such work in full screen/window mode.  Only when I'm using maker that it does this.

Oh, you mean, it's just when you're testing your games in RPG Maker?

That effect has to do with the way the graphic card and its driver handle the data. 3D-fullscreen is different from 2D-fullscreen and both are different from Video-Fullscreen, and all graphic cards have only alimited number of internal screens.

For example, if you test it then you'll see that DVD/Videos will only work in fullscreen on your TV - if you try to play a DVD with the program in windowed mode, it'll only work on the laptop screen, not on the TV (unless you have a rare DVD-playing program with full software coding and a very powerful CPU).

I don't want to go into the technical details, but there are no simple solutions for this.

You can try to set the HDMI-output as the primary screen, or to completely disable the laptop screen while the HDMI is connected. That might free the screenport needed for external fullscreen of RM, but it might make handling the notebook without TV a bit more awkward.

If that trick doesn't work, then most probably you won't be able to go fullscreen with RM externally with that notebook.

I meant in how did he set it up. Only in the external display? Expand it?

But yeah, I agree. He could try to update the drivers of his laptop's GPU. But I cannot guarantee that this will work. Maybe trying it out on a diffrent PC?

The most extreme (and the one that may not help at all), is to update the TV's frimware (if possible). Some companies offer frimware updates (like Samsung) for their TV's (both smart and regular) but it's mostly for fixing bugs on the regular ones.

It's guaranteed that this won't help - I know exactly what is causing the problem, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the TV itself.

I don't think the problem is ace specifically (maybe it is considering test mode is technically RM playing?) but if all other applications/games work via full screen or alt+enter but RM in test mode doesn't poses the question.  Considering it is a technical problem, I'm wondering if anyone else had this issue and what is the work around to it?  RM isn't a demanding engine graphics wise, so I don't know why it would refuse to go into screen mode at all, there's no frame drops, sound hicups, or anything else of the sort, it just refuses to go full screen other than the tile sets on the left flicker when trying to do so.

The laptop is directly hooked up to the TV via hdmi.  I appreciate the answers, if it wasn't just specifically RM doing this I wouldn't post as this a technical difficulty.

Is there a work around to get this to work?

I've only tested this on  one TV so I will test it later today on another TV and see if the problem still persists.  If that's the case then it's the TV not the program/laptop.

@ Andar how do you turn off the display while HDMI is plugged in, I have no idea how that's turned off.

@ Shaz This feels like a technical problem that's why I posted to this area seeing if anyone else had this problem not a general chat, sorry if the post looked confusing.

@ Aces 1600x900, course RM itself only displays at 640x400 when in test mode/actual play.

You have to check your notebook's manual for that.
Usually it's a special key-combintation on the keyboard that serves as the output selector, something like Fn+F?
