So I am fed up with warriors, mages, priests, rogues and paladins. I need help to come up with unique and preferably humorous classes for a game I may make in the distant future. Please include info about skills, elements (if applicable) and stats (e.g. high defence not stat graphs). My younger brother was watching TV and whatever show he was watching had a DnD spoof episode. Dunno why but a bit that made me laugh was when there was a rules dispute, but the DM looked it up in the rules book and agreed that level 6 princesses COULD time travel. Please reply soon and thanks in advance.

Just don't pull a M. Night Shyamalan on your game. >_>

(The guy who decided to make the Avatar Last Airbender movie because his son was watching it and suggested it. Was a horrible idea and turned out horrible.)

From the grumpy knight I had:

Chief

Who cooked explosive puddings.

Illusionist

Whose skills created Illusions that attacked the enemy or healed the party every turn.

He also had skills he could use that would use up all his illusions.

Gardener

His main skill required 1 turn of preparation and then you could unleash it whenever but the longer you waited the stronger it was.

@kerbonklin - With all due respect, this has nothing at all to do with my question. I was just giving an example of what would be a funny class. The game isn't inspired from that TV show.

@Fomar - Great ideas, and exactly the kind of thing I am looking for! Would it be possible to elaborate a bit more on the class descriptions (like give some ideas of their skills etc)? Thanks.

@Andar - Thanks. The world that I will use is a generic fantasy one.

@Probotector 200x - Very informative. Thanks!

Class ideas are partly based on the setting or the world. I've developed my own game world (for PnP-RPG) and came up with a lot of different classes just by thinking what the people of the world would need as help.

For example, in this world there is a lot of magic, especially portal magic for travel and summoning. Not every newbie mage will get his first teleportation portal correct, and often high mages try to experiment with new forms of portals. A failed portal ritual has a chance to summon the wrong attention, while the mage is exhausted from his main ritual - so he better hires some help to protect him in case this goes wrong.

Fighters specialising in defending and blocking magic portals need different skills and abilities than fighters in the open (more protection against magic attacks, less agility since they have to hold the small portal and can't move and so on) - and voila, the new class of "Portal Guardian" was found...

If you're fed up with the basic classes, giving you different general classes might not be the way to go - in my opinion it's better to integrate a new class idea with the world, deciding what kind of tasks the class would have to solve in that world. And to do that, you'll have to consider your world.

The class mentioned above (portal guardian) can only exist in a world where you find experimenting mages in every other village - otherwise there would not be enough demand to justify a guild and training specialicing in such abilities...

Sometimes, I see one unique or off-beat type of ability in something, and try to expand it into a class for a character (or characters)

Like, say, Panty and Stocking (from Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt) can turn their underwear into weapons. How creative is that? Make a class based on that, where you can turn your underwear (maybe an equipment slot?) into a weapon, maybe different types or brands of underwear turn into different or stronger weapons? I have NO idea what to call a class that does this. Underweaponer? Underweaponist?

In Disgaea and Soul Eater, certain characters can temporarily transform into weapons for someone else to use. Maybe, if you want a more versatile character, they can transform into any type of weapon your other characters can use. Like, say, you activate the abilty and turn into a weapon during battle! Your other characters can use swords, rods, bows, spears, and axes. So, your Weapon Former (I dunno what else to call it) has multiple skills for each type. Like say, Greatsword, Flamesword, Excalibur, Time Rod, Caduceus, Iron Bow, Artemis Bow, Silver Spear, Wing Spear, Shadow Lance, Battle Axe, Rock Cleaver...and so on. Each skill turns the Weapon Former into the respective weapon temporarily, equipped to a specific character, as a state (there's a cool script that lets you change equipment with states!) Maybe the state can be broken and the character reverts. The weapon has specific stats, but is stronger based on the Weapon Former's level and other stats (need some tricky formulas for this, but it's doable I think)

You could try a class with limited battle application, but still useful. Like say, a Blacksmith. Then again you gotta be strong to be a blacksmith I assume, and you can temper weapons during battle (well, that's not that realistic, but it's an RPG so who cares, lol). So like, a variation of a Warrior with some stat buffs! How about some kind of Merchant character? They can haggle at shops to get you deals, maybe buy extra items...But in battle, they could possibly bribe enemies for items or a truce, maybe have a Coin Toss skill like in some Final Fantasies?

I sometimes try and have characters with bizarre moves, like all kinds of weird common events. Like turning a party member into a random monster, teleporting the party to some dimensional pocket town to rest, an ability that triggers a series or random questions if answered correctly provides a boon to the party but if too many questions are wrong you get a bane instead.

I also combine class types from games to get new classes. Like a White Mage Berserker, or something.

So, I've sorta suggested, what...six classes?

-Underweaponer

-Weapon Former

-Blacksmith

-Merchant

-(unknown)

-White Mage Berserker

Well, anyway, inspiration is everywhere! Think of a real world job and how it could apply to an RPG, in battle and out. Think of characters with exotic or different abilities and find some way to apply it to a class.

to further comment on probotector's idea on a merchant class...

When the player goes to a shop the merchant class has a "battle" with the shop keeper.... they have attacks like "sweet talk" ..."intimidate"... "lie" (Get creative)
each skill can lower their HP bars...if the merchant defeats the shop keeper then the items they sell are cheaper to buy...if they lose they have to pay regular price.

could be fun

In a game I never finished, I picked from the RTP unlikely heroes, which led to the awesome party of: a clown, a bunny girl, a fortune teller and an underaged noble.

Also, I don't know if you've read this thread, but it might give you some inspiration as well. (Considering generic fantasy = medieval fantasy).

Clown - Assaults its enemies with pies, balloon animals, and bad jokes.  They're also capable of scaring little children.

Knight of Eternity - Takes an eternity to perform any action.

Shopkeeper - They attack the enemy by throwing their wares.  Just don't expect them to give you any freebies.

Rabbitmancer - Capable of summoning and controlling rabbits.

Popstar - They sit back and let their adoring fans fend off any enemies that get too close.

I made a class that gains experience by coming up with effective ways of avoiding quests, combat and any form of physical labor at all costs.. Started as a way to troll a playtester but got so many laughs i may actually make a game or class based on it heh.

This thread looks fun.

Fleshomancer - can manipulate the flesh of character's own body into any form he wants. Attacks include poisonous tentacles, swallowing enemies, shooting projectiles made of bone, camouflage, mimicking, turning any body part into something else like giant pistol shrimp claws or scorpion stingers.

Weapons Master - this guy can only equip weapons, but lots of it. He can equip up to six weapons at a time and he can use skills depending on the weapons he equipped. Can also equip any kind of weapon.

Drunken Fist - relies on alcohol items, drinks that boost his stats for a set amount of turns. He can also use skills depending on what kind of alcohol he drank. Can only drink one alcohol at a time for some reason.

Fashion Model - his fabulous poses can enhance the party's morale and lower the enemies stats. Also gets a higher stat bonus from wearing equipment.

Hello and I have some interesting classes.

Mechanic: They will spend an entire day to create a mechanical construct that will both protect and fight for your character. After a battle it would take a longer ammount based on the damage the construct to repair it.

The stinger: An alchemist who will create potions/ poisons to use in combat. While in combat he will use a blowdart system, and would apply poisons to the darts for a ranged attack. At higher levels he would be able to shoot more faster with stronger poisons.

Illusionist: They are a master of illusions. And can easily manipulate those who oppose them. They can beam images into the minds of others. They can Buff allies or debuff enemies.

Maybe a strategist who increase the efficiency of other characters but doesn’t attack kind of like a healer that only uses buffs

Or maybe a suducer who can uses poses two incapacitate the enemies and some allies and can even cause damage by doing pose combos making the enemy anime style nose bleed

Couldn’t think of any combat ones

Just thought of another one mom a class that’s so over powering they destroy everything and uses a frying pan as a main weapon to whack the enemies and even heal and do buffs along with the already mentioned melee attacks

I'm going to close this since it keeps getting necroposted and is incredibly old.

Woke up on an awful nightmare of being banned here because some mod didn't liked me in a super-heroes freeform round robin RP where I used throwing normal hammer as power and it was qualified being too OP. XD Nice to read you all guys. Will not wait next nightmares.
Staring at all the RPG Maker versions I have and realizing that my project has been a long time coming. But, I finally feel like I have the knowledge and experience to make it into something good.
We're almost done with the jam game! :D
