So, i recently picked up skyrim for the switch.

As i played i dabbled in training different skills my overall level shot up pretty fast.

I trained alchemy blacksmithing pickpocketing enchanting sneaking archery heavy armor light armor blocking one handed and two handed weapons...

But more and more i struggled to fight monsters. Why?

Because the world scales with the character. The higher your overall level the stronger the monsters become.

I restarted with a plan.

So, because i cant use both a one handed weapon and a two handed weapon at the same time i used only one handed weapons.

To save further levels..
i used exclusively light armor.
I never crafted anything.
I never used a bow.

End result? I destroy everything no problem. I was punished for trying out the different aspects of the game.

I could of used alchemy to brew potions for restoring hp or extra power.. But if i did the monsters got stronger too. So now to match them i HAVE to brew potions.

I could train blacksmithing to craft better armor to protect myself.. But until i reach the level to craft the armor im actually making the game harder.

For example..i can upgrade my armor at level 30 smithing.

While i train from 1-29 im raising my overall level without increasing my combat effectiveness...

Any thoughts?

and with that, now I know I'll never play it.
that's one lazy design solution if I ever saw one.

I mean, you know, there is difficulty setting in Skyrim where you could set everything in Apprentice or Novice and enjoy being jack of all trades. Unless you feel like playing in lower difficulty feels like cheating or you still find it hard.

I play as a jack too, leveled up many aspect because I just want to get as much magicka as possible so that my spell would not run out of MP. Although I start to switch to adept difficulty when I feel like I'm already strong enough

Problem with Skyrim leveling system is, if you already max out a certain level in a single aspect, say destruction (cz I love throwing fireballs), you couldn't get more level because it's already 100. It's annoying, and feels like I have no more reason to use destruction spells anymore.

My big bro has an interesting build though. He used sneak as a main gameplay, and stamina build. Hard to get noticed, yet it's a paper where most of encounter would one hit kill the MC. Large stamina pool worked for escaping if being noticed. And it was quite fun to play.

Honestly though, if you play skyrim for challenge and perhaps, a fair challenge, you play a wrong game. This Skyrim is mainly for roleplaying, the main appeal of the game. There is nothing wrong if you use a low tier armor followed by lots of followers because you use a mod and seeing the followers protect you and you did nothing. Or maybe just cast mayhem so that bandits are killing each other.

Lol I'm tempted to get skyrim to see how my playstyle will fare against its goofy levelling system.

And that is why I hate level scaling systems. Most games that implement it scale the enemies faster than you scale in power, so leveling up just makes the game harder, not easier.

I dont mind the game not being a challenge it just feels odd to be punished for improving my character.

True, but that still doesn't make it good design.

Well, I'm not defending the design. I mean, you could do anything with it anyway. They're pretty open with design, you could change anything if it doesn't satisfy you (Yes, I'm talking about mod) and it's also including difficulty change mid game. Console also exist just for the lul

Open console command, press a few buttons and voila, completed the game in 2 minutes, also you could spawn items, monsters etc, i mean that is the funkiest way to beat the game, you should do that if you're truly bored.

@Gallia : Nah, you should just install every Skyrim mod, and I mean EVERY. A reporter did that a few years ago, and after deleting the ones that just didn't work, the results were really hilarious.

I wonder if PCGamer still has that article posted on that?

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
