Things come too easily to the character - okay anyone have any suggestions on how to make things harder for the character? I don't know what to add to give it a more challenge.

Sidequests to get things, or even through dialogue.

"Hey, I need a bow..."

"Why would I give you a bow?"

"I'm the guy saving your world, the least you could do is help me!"

"Hmm...

It makes sense..."

"So will you give me a bow or will you let the world end?"

"hmm...

\|

Okay, you win, here it is"

Make character talk you know? Give them some 'I'm not sure you are the person you say you are, but you sound convincing'. Have people talk a little more about things before. Like joining.

"Oh god, they took my sister.."

"Hey, what happened?"

"My sister was taken and I don't know what to do"

"Who took her?"

"Who else?"

"I'm after them too, I could use some help.

How about this, you help me, I find your sister."

The first question you need to ask is "What is the threat being imposed by the villain?" Is he going to murder anyone opposed to him? How is he going to do that? Does he have loyal guards? Or is he more of a "hands on" person?

All of this presents challenges. For example; I'm a peasant, I don't like the oppressive ruler, but I know if anyone in the village sees me rebel there is a change they will tell a guard and I'll wake up in the gallows. Or if he's got less influence, and I know more people are ready to rebel, maybe I'm willing to pass supplies around but not do anything where a guard might see me.

It's about character limits, how much risk are these characters willing to put forward, and since we don't know where those lines are, we don't know when they are being crossed.

So the second standard character, why does he just drop his entire incentive in two lines before unconditionally joining the hero? If I were about to follow someone into battle against an overwhelming force I would have questions, like "can they succeed?" Or at the very least I'd be going with the foreknowledge of this being a suicide run, and be acting accordingly.

I guess I can add those to the full game. This is just a demo.

Bump. Okay I have added ATB battle system to the game and made the skills move the player next to the target to attack it.

Hello! I tried your game.  There's a bit of lag when playing in browser version.   The random encounter rate is way too high, especially since you have to run around a lot looking to see what doors open.  Combine this with the enemies not being very interesting (I just spam attack and they die) I quickly gave up.  Sorry! I'm not totally against random encounters, but they need to be well-thought out.  Being this frequent, and this bland, they were really just a constant chore/annoyance for the player (in my opinion).

Okay I have updated the game.

Here are the updates:

-Hired someone to for them to have to completely rework the battle system. Now it should be [more] balanced, have different skills and be more intelligent(including intricately defeating enemies)

-Changed some conversations a little bit

I edited the conversations to have a better dialogue as people have asked here. I did it by myself.

About the villain doing evil as someone has asked mere here; I looked into it and the threat is that the villain Dragula took over the city and because he is corrupt and a terrible leader, the city suffers. Just like when Mcbeth became the kind, falsely, the people were suffering. Dragula also skins half-dragon I believe like for their oil...

Please take a look at it.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
