Game freezes when Player selects new game?

Hello all... I wasn't to sure where to post this topic, so here it is.
A tester of ours in the team has encountered something that does not happen on my end.

The Situation

When the said person selects new game it freezes.

We're both lost on what this could be causing this issue... if you know what could be the cause. That may help us problem solve this issue... or at least understand why it will never work.

Need to know some more info.


Does this happen ALL the time for that person? Does it happen when they choose New Game immediately after launching? Does it happen when they play for a while then return to the menu then choose New Game? Have they EVER been able to play a game or create a save file?


What should happen when they choose New Game? Do you have a cutscene that plays? What's the first thing they should see?


What happens before it freezes? Is it still on the title screen? Does it actually load a starting map?


Do you have any additional scripts? If so, what are they and provide links to them.


Where does your player have the game installed? Does it try to create a file or folder? If they install to a different location do they still have the same issue? If you install your game (or get other players to do the same) to the same location as this person can you reproduce the problem (eg, if they have it in Program Files)?


There are a LOT of things that could be causing this, but you need to do a lot of investigative work to try and narrow it down.

So I'm the guy that this is happening to. Firstly, yes, every time I select "New Game" the screen will just go black. I was actually able to play it the first 2 times I opened it a while ago, but now it will confirm my selection of the new game, go black, then stop responding. I have downloaded it multiple times and saved them in every RPG maker VX Ace folder I have (It is spread among 2 different drives, internal and external). Nothing I do will work.

So if you create a new folder directly in C:\ and install the game in there and play, the same thing happens? Very strange that it worked 2 times and then not again - were there changes made to the game between the time when it worked and the first time it didn't work?


Do you have the ability to edit the game yourself?

Yes there were a few changes.

Eventing... which shouldn't hurt anything. I know it works on my end.

Yeah, I have also tried making a folder and playing it there. I do have the ability to edit the game, but every time I try playtesting, the very same thing will happen, even if I do something as minuscule as moving the starting point. The strange thing about all this was the fact that there were absolutely no changes to the game when I tried it the first two times, and the third when it froze.

Do other RPG Maker games run okay for you? Are all your graphics and audio drivers up to date? I asked a heap of other questions in my first post that haven't yet been answered (or not answered directly and I'm still a bit unsure). If you can both address each one and provide as much detail as possible, it might clear up a few remaining questions.


I really don't think I can help you much, without actually being able to see the game myself (in the editor).

Yeah, I have the latest RPG Maker VX Ace, all of the graphics and such are up to date (Though my audio only works with a headset now. The external speakers somehow messed up a month ago, but it still works fine). I can play just about any other VX Ace project I have been given and this is the first time it will freeze after selecting "New Game", no matter how long I wait for it to respond. Hopefully you can deduce what the problem is, if you encounter any.
